Re: How much to Z , I wanna lay rocker ona 64

I have a 3" Z, 3" drop spindles, and bags with an '82 crossmember on my '63 frame with a '62 body. It lays frame, but not rocker. The pinch weld is about 1/16"-1/8" off the ground. I don't think you can lay rocker with these trucks without a body drop?! Here's some pics:

It's a 2-link with a panhard bar.

Re: How much to Z , I wanna lay rocker ona 64

Thanks for kind words. If I could do it over again I'd make the notch shorter. I wanted to give myself some room so I could run a taller tire. It also helped with the shock location. If it had been lower I'd have trouble finding shocks or have to mount them somewhere else.

It depends on how tall your tire is, but you'd probably be fine with an 8" step notch. I think that is the standard size that everyone else runs. I extended mine to make it taller.

I like 235s...started putting it back together. Here's the split manifold I'm running. Should sound nice with no mufflers!

thekid54,

That back setup looks so tight! Where did you get that c-notch it looks great. Are those the stock framerails after the notch? cause the notch looks straight. Also where did you get the upper bag mounts? The only thing I think you should change is your panhard bar. When you lift the back all the way up doesn't your rim hit the frame? Just wanna say again that the truck looks dope. Is it a fleetside? You should put 22's on the front 24's on the rear a cruise that 6 banger! L.A. is alittle far or i'd pay you to bag the back of my 64!

Thanks for the props Tony! The notches are from suicidedoors, but I extended them. Those are the stock frame rails behind the notch. However, I cut the rear cross member and moved the frame rails out to line up with the notch. That way I didn't have to deal with a crooked notch. I made the upper bag mounts using bag plates from suicidedoors. I designed the vertical plates. They're made from 1/4" plate and they tie into the inside of the frame rail for extra strength. As for the panhard bar, maybe it's a bad camera angle, but my wheels don't even come close to hitting the frame. Yes, it's a fleetside, but I still have to shorten my bedsides down from a longbed. Although I like big rims, they won't be going on this truck. I plan to run Cragar SS, Astro Supremes, or Radir Tri-ribs. I'm going for a 60's custom.

great looking setup you have there.

what's your plan for the drive shaft? it might be a camera angle, but it appears that your frame will snap it in two when you air it up.

I've notched the crossmember since then. I believe this pic was taken at ride height, or maybe a little higher.

thekid 54,
what did you do to drop down the engine mounts to move the engine lower?

I just used the '82 mounts that came with my crossmember and modified them. I used the inner set of holes on the crossmember to mount them and then sectioned them to fit the frame. The mounts for the engine are modifed 230/250 side mounts from a '75 truck.
