flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
Ok I am looking at getting some of theese, but I'm having a hard time decideing on which to use.
I found a video online of two impala's one with super one with reg. 40's. The super 40's sounded alot meaner but a bit raspy and popped. I don't like that popping to me is make it sound like the vehicle had problems, like backfire and just sound bad. The reg. 40's didn't pop but they seemed quieter. I like em loud that for sure, but the drone isn't good either. I heard the reg. ones drone or resonate inside around 2k rpm. That would be bad for me because that's where I'm usually at, unless I'm shifting gears or on the highway, which is rare. I know on our 84 it has a single 2-1/2 pipe, no cat, manifolds and y-pipe into the 2-1/2 single flowmaster, dual out muffler. I don't know what it is but it has drone while getting up to rpm's where it shifts(350 auto.) Now what theese would go on is a very mild 350, 2.02 heads 268h comp cam, real good lope to it, full length headers, gutted cats, and exits behind rear tires. Right now I have glasspacks, and they are ok, but since I changed gears, and added a stall and shift kit to the trans. I get more rpm and the glasspacks and starting to bug me. They sorta pop or bang bang bang, rattle or whatever you wanna call it when you get up to about 4k or so. ESP. when you are between buildings or bridges. I don't like the noise they make, I like the loudness, but now the flowmasters sound better to me. I would also consider the force mufflers, aerochambers by hooker, but I heard thoose and they seem quieter then flowmasters, or the summit race mufflers that are chambered, they are about $30 each and that would be great. So if anyone has flowmaster 40's super 40's the new 44's delta flow 40's or anything I mentioned on a sound clip or video please post or send me the link so I can compare. I also considered the delta force race muffler that's half the size of flowmaster 40's but I don't know if it be too much or not. I can post a sound clip of one setup I really like, if someone thinks they can determine what muffler it is.

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
The little delta force race mufflers you're referring to are the 10 series single chambers. I have those on a custom dual setup on my LS1 camaro.....they're LOUD! Have several sound clips of those if you like, but the LS1 sounds way different than the sbc. I've also got the original 40 series on my truck (mild 355). I've got a sound clip of mostly idling & a couple revs if you'd like them.
My experience (which is similar to what flowmaster's website says) is that the original 40 series is the most aggressive sounding (inside & out) street muffler they make, followed by the super 40 which is supposed to be a tiny bit quieter & deeper outside the car with considerably less interior drone.

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
I heard the exact same thing. That and the delta 40's are less interior but same outside or less outside also I forget which I've read so much on them lately.
But yes love clips of both the camaro and your truck. Theese are for my monte carlo since the truck already has a flowmaster on it.

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
I was on flowmastermufflers.com last night, only clip I got was the 71-72 chevelle with the new flowmaster 44's.
I think I've heard the 10's on clips before and LOVE EM!!!!! I just don't think I could run em around town everyday, get the police giving me excessive noise tickets or something. We drive it everywhere around town normal daily driving and to car shows. So I dunno. I'm thinking reg. 40's or supers either one. Some clips I seen on streetfire, most of the new FI cars like mustangs sounded alot deeper with super's then reg. but on older vehicles like our trucks and a chevelle they sounded louder, and raspy. Not too bad though. You guys get that interior drone resonance in your trucks though? Mine being for a car might drone I dunno.

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
i have flowmaster 40's on my '67 and super 40's on my '91 dodge. i was going through the same dilemma a year ago when putting new exhaust on my dodge truck. i chose to go with the super 40's because they were the latest and greatest but theyre really not that loud. they give a good, performance exhaust note and the sound deflection works (no cab noise) but if youre looking to sound the least bit nasty then the original 40 series is the way to go for sure. dont be fooled into thinking that just because the supers are more expensive that theyre a better sounding muffler.

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
Thanks guys.
I really like thoose 10's but I think they'd be too noisy for everyday plus I know my neighbors and local po-po would like them too LOL. I think I'll go for regular 40's. if not then delta flow 40's. I want to find some on ebay for cheap, because they are like 70-80 in summit but ebay has them for under $50. I just want to make sure I get the right ones. Anyone know how to check and make sure I get original 40's? other then the part number?

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
Here is a sound clip for ya. Bone stock 350 with dual Flowmaster 40's center in/center out. The sound is all mine except for the whistling. The Ram doesn't have performance exhaust so.......

Re: flowmasters, super 40's vs. regular 40's
Thanks again for the clips guys.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with 40's I just want to look around and find them cheaper then like 70-80 bucks each. Because unless I get like 2in. in/out or 2.25 I'm gonna need reducer/adapters for all four ends of the mufflers plus get them welded, or do it myself.
