4x4 center drag link

Some real smart person pulled a 71 chevy 4x4 by the center drag link, I think that is what its called. The rod that is connected to tie rods, goes from wheel to wheel. We have been searching for one at all junk yards, etc, no luck, I do not want to attempy to staighten it because I know it will never be the same. Anyone know where I can get one? Thanks

Re: 4x4 center drag link

otsenre,

I to needed this tie rod tube - called several custom 4X4 shops and they stated they can make one for 73 and up but the tooling needed (different taps) are not avaliable for the pre 73's. It was stated if i bought the taps they would make it. They also sell the prethreaded ends to weld into a new peice of tube but they are having quality issues with the material. I to searched all over - I had the idea that using stock 73 parts but the tie rod holes in the knuckles will need to be reamed oout for a larger hole. One other option was the famous crossover steering. I opted out and swaped out the whole axle for a open knuckle out of a 86 Suburban. This swamp has it problems also. If you want the links to the fabricators - i can give them to you.

Re: 4x4 center drag link

I still have a few Dana 44's lying around. All of them appear to be similar enough to swap between the years. Let me know if interested, It's about $25 to ship DHL cross country. I'll let them go for $50+ shipping, includes tie rod ends.

I have one, but its NOS. Not used. I'd sell it, but not at a used price.

Re: 4x4 center drag link

The couplers on the ends are called tie rod ends. That`s because the thing you need that goes between is the tie rod.Get it?Tie rod, parts that thread into ends...tie rod ends.

Re: 4x4 center drag link

Oh,I`m cool(see smiley).I just keep seeing people not knowing what to call these(second thread in a week/many people)when it`s so obvious.I guess with solid axles/Hotchkis-type suspension fading into the past(20 years on K/10s & K/20s)you`ll have this.

BTW,nice drive up there along Cripple Creek,eh?
