OK, so where do I go from here?

So you guys know I found this great LWB 69 Chev.

I have swapped to 5-lug front and rear, and generally started to whip it back into shape.

My original plan was to put it back on the road as a driver/worker/light duty trailer hauler. Now I am seeing these awsome trucks that are lowered, customized, tricked out, and generally B#&chin'.

I'm really getting the itch to knock this truck apart, cut the frame down to SWB, and rod it out to be a purely fun driver and show truck. (my wife likes this idea MUCH better than the "dirty old work truck")

I am at a crossroads here...

WHAT SHOULD I DO????

Re: OK, so where do I go from here?

I'd say, before you cut the frame, do a little looking, and a little asking around, and you should be able to find a short frame nearby...

This will make your life easy in the long run, as you will be able to prep the frame and set up the suspension exactly how you want it, all while keeping your truck drivable. Once the frame is ready, it wouldn't take much to swap the cab and running gear over.

Just my $0.02

I have always felt you should go with what you got. Go with your strengths. If you want something different, then go get it.

all the fixed up lowered trucks are SWB

Re: OK, so where do I go from here?

All good advice IMO. I like the swb trucks myself though and brak makes a very good point. As long as the wife is on board you got one of the hard parts already in the bag. Just my .02. Those lwb trucks are growing on me no pon intended.

Re: OK, so where do I go from here?

Ok, great feed back guys...here is another twist to the sittiachion. I have another good LWB frame from my parts truck that I COULD cut down to SWB and leave my stock frame should I ever want to go back. That way I don't have to buy another SWB frame (cheaper), and I could cut it down in an afternoon (I am capable I guess I am trying to say). How does that change things

I know, I know... why go SWB...well 'cause dad burnit I like em.

Edit by ME:

I also have a 84 chevy 3/4ton 4 wheel drive in the yard that I COULD make into the trailer hauler...oh man, what am I going to do???????

Re: OK, so where do I go from here?

i say go for what you want to do, do some research and web surfing for pictures of these trucks at various shows and whatnot and look at the SWB and LWB and go from there on what you want to do

Re: OK, so where do I go from here?

turn the parts truck into the show/driver, make the 69 a racer, and leave the ugly truck for working. but of course go slow so as not to piss off the wife with having 2 projects at once. tell her the other truck is for her.

Re: OK, so where do I go from here?

Read Ram-Man's thread about shortening his. I'll tell you the same as I did him. If you are thinking about it now and you don't do it you may never be as happy as if you just went ahead and shortened it. YOU and well I guess your wife are the ones that have to be happy with the final out come.

As for shortening the extra lwb frame I say gor for that too. It will save you money over finding a shorty and, IMO no bad side effects. Heck it seems contagious around here lately.

I agree. It's your truck, make it what YOU want. That is what makes these trucks so cool! The options are endless.

I agree 100% I am sure glad I did mine now. Like racinjason said I think I would have never been happy with it in the end by not cutting it down now. Here is how I did mine.

Here's another view....
Drive it for the summer.... run it as a beater. THEN, you'll know EXACTLY what you want to do to it.

If you decide to go shorty frame, let me know. I've got a 72 shorty I need to get rid of and we're only 200 miles or so apart.
