Hard Brake Pedal

what suggestions can I get to help fix my brakes, the pedal is very hard. It stops fine but you have to stand up on the pedal to get it to stop and when at idle it still does not hold very good. The pedal does nto go to the floor so it has plenty of pressure in the lines. New booster about a year ago...so any suggestioins?

thanks!

Re: Hard Brake Pedal

I would check the vacuum line for the booster. Sounds like the brake booster is not helping you somehow. Maybe even a bad booster....it happens.

Re: Hard Brake Pedal

I agree vacume leak or booster it self sounds like the culprit.

Re: Hard Brake Pedal

unplug the large vac hose that goes to your booster, and shove a big bolt or something in there. Start the truck up, and see if the brake pedal feels the same.

Re: Hard Brake Pedal

With engine off put foot on brake and hold pressure. Start truck. If booster is working pedal with lower a small amount.

Re: Hard Brake Pedal

if it's a 3/4 ton or one ton, that test isn't totally conclusive. I lost an engine due to a bad booster that passed that test.

Re: Hard Brake Pedal

I belive it is the booster. I unplugged the vacuum hose and there is plenty of vacuum there. with the hose unplugged the brakes still felt the same. I am going to put a new one on tommorrow and see what happens. Changing the MC too, just in case..
