52 GMC - What do you guys think?
Hi everyone. I'm new to the 47-59 era and I need some opinions. I happened to run across a 52 GMC for sale today that caught my eye for some reason so I inquired about it. I know next to nothing about these trucks and what they're worth, so I was hoping maybe you guys could help me out...
It's a 52 GMC 5-window, rust-free (supposedly); never been driven in winter; 228 straight-6 with 7000-8000 miles; 5-speed trans w/granny low (is that right?); suspension was redone and new kingpins were put in; it has a dent in the left rear fender from rolling into the guy's garage, which also broke off a tail light. The colors are a little funky for my taste (orange with a purple interior and purple accents on the engine, yikes) and the PO extended the bed out back for some reason which looks a little awkward, but overall the truck looks very straight and like it's in good shape. As for spare parts that go with it he has a spare head, the original grill, carburator, clutch fan, fuel pump, distributor, water pump, king pins, lights, door weatherstrip, side mirrors, seat belts, and a radiator overflow system (weatherstripping, seat belts, and overflow system are new in packages). His asking price is $3200 obo. What do you guys think, is it worth that? Like I said, I'm absolutely clueless as to what these trucks are worth since I've never dealt with them before, but I do think this is a neat truck and would be fun for my dad and I to work on since this is the kind of classic he likes. Here are some pictures by the way: Last edited by JTK20; 04-08-2007 at 03:51 AM. |

That's quite the Holy Roller! I like it and if it runs/drives it is well worth that money for me...I say go for it! If you do get it, what color do you think you'll re-paint it? (I know you're already thinking of paint!!!)

Re: 52 GMC - What do you guys think?
Yeah I found the "advertising" interesting. According to the seller it runs/drives great. As far as paint goes, I've envisioned many different paint schemes, from 2-tone to all one color, as long as, at the very least, the purple is completely wiped out (it's one of my least favorite colors). I don't care for orange much either, but as long as it's a secondary color it could work with white, although I'd much rather get rid of it. Anyway, it's all just ideas and speculation right now.

It looks better than the one I am starting with. Make him a lower offer to see if he will bite. Is it driveable right now?

Re: 52 GMC - What do you guys think?
He says it's a running, driving truck. The way he described it sounds like I could drive it home, which is a 2-hour trip.

Does anybody else think those graphics on the side of the bed look like "gene carriers" in a mad dash to be first to the grand prize at the end of the "tunnel"?

Re: 52 GMC - What do you guys think?
PASS ON IT! looks like it has been worked over by someone with poor taste. probably lots of hidden problems and a few that are not hidden. keep looking for something else and keep asking for advice. that thing is a refugee from the late 80', early 90's.

Re: 52 GMC - What do you guys think?
I agree to pass on it. I live in the southwest were rust is not a big issue so I may be off but I wouldn't touch it if it were $2000. Just my 2 cents though.

Re: 52 GMC - What do you guys think?
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be passing on it like you suggested. 55dude, you're 100% right, the person who did the work to that truck has very poor taste.

Other than the blocky front bumper, I like it. Keep the Jesus theme!
