Airline and heat?
I am wondering how close an DOT airline can be to my exhaust, in one area it will be 4" from the exhaust pipe. Is that to close or will the airline take the heat? Thanks, Mike

Re: Airline and heat?
No, it will not take the heat. I have had to lines blow and both times it was from being to close to a heat source. It "might" be safe if you put a piece of rubber hose over it.

Re: Airline and heat?
My suggestion would be "nowhere near" the exhaust. The last line I had blow was because the exhaust pipe pulled out of the catalytic converter. It was blowing hot air toward the line and caused it to blow.
Anything that can be done to prevent routing airline away from the exhaust is money in the bank.

Re: Airline and heat?
If it has to be routed near your exhaust, create some type of heat shield that's mounted solid. After the heat shield, put the lines in a temp resistant 'sleeve', similar to what is used on spark plug boots.

Re: Airline and heat?
Thanks for all the advice! It also gets me wondering how everyone is routing their airline? Im trying to keep them inside the frame rail but when i get to the front i cross paths with my exhaust-which also gets me wondering- is it advisable to run airlines on the outside of the frame towards the top? Looks like the lines would be mostly out of harms way. Whats your thinkin? Thanks Mike

Re: Airline and heat?
My lines run along the inside and are at least a foot away from my exhaust just about everywhere. The one spot that crosses over is attached to the crossmember that holds my carrier bearing and I ran them as close to the top of the as I could.
<edit> my exhaust is nothing more than straight pipes off the headers down either side of the drive line and end just past the trailing arm crossmember. Very ghetto, but functional until I get it redone.
