AC expansion valve question

How do you tell if the AC expansion valve is bad? Thanks...

Try this site:

www.aircondition.com

There are other links at the site, but try clicking on:

" Basic air condition operation", for a description of the system in a car.

I am not sure how to test the expansion valve, but it controls the flow of freon based upon temperature, so the ac will not work when it is bad.

watch your gauges. if low side is sucking into a vacuum or both low and high side pressures are high you have a bad expansion valve. i am assuning you are using gauges.
