What's the story with the AC diverter box

Does anyone know if this part is discontinued? Everyone I've talked with says it's on backorder... If it is no longer available, has anyone ever repaired one? My lever mechanism is twisted and the box is cracked.

Thanks in advance.

I got one from GMC Pauls about a year ago. Have you checked with the board vendors?

You may have got one of the last ones. I looked through all the classifieds, and didn't find any. I heard they came from GM, but now have not been available since November.

Does anyone know if this part is specific to AC trucks?

Re: What's the story with the AC diverter box

It is specific to trucks with A/C. The story I got is that G.M. is sold out of them, but is supposed to have more in a month or so. I'll bet if G.M. does discontinue them, the aftermarket will make a re-pop.. They break all the time.

Thanks Bob B.

I'll keep my hopes up as it's getting warm out and I can't completely shut off the heater without that box.

Wes had them a month ago. You might try him.

Yes, check with Wes at ClassicHeartbeat. I think he still has a couple.

There's one on evilbay right now. It's supposed to be NOS. THe item number is 150110728260.

If anyone can post the link, please do. I'm not that technologically advanced.

I recently bought an A/C delete cover on ebay although not cheap sure cleans up the firewall & keeps your heater working.

Re: What's the story with the AC diverter box

I bought an aftermarket one where the rubber fell apart within 2 years. Sometimes you can find one in a slavage yard that is still good. Then tended to wrap and then the door would brake loose from the shaft.

Re: What's the story with the AC diverter box

They are all "JUNK"-by design! I also am pretty sure GM was the sole source for all of them. I put a new one in my Blazer and it was broken again within 6 months (in Washington???).
I have never seen a good used one. The plastic flapper door breaks away from the shaft, UNDER the rubber seal, so you usually can't see it. You have to physically check it...and as you said, they warp from heat.
You can strengthen/repair these, if the housing is straight. You need to make tabs that you can drill & pop rivet to the flapper door and then tack weld to the metal shaft. Take it slow, keep it cool (water) and keep the welds small.

Re: What's the story with the AC diverter box

Thanks everybody for your help! I did call Wes at Classic Heartbeat and he is looking for one for me now.

The story is that GM stopped making them, but may start up production again, no one is sure yet.

I'm going to try to pick one up now before only used ones are left! Anyone have any tips on keeping them working well? I like the rivet and weld idea. Maybe add some reinforcing braces here and there?
