It drives....LOL... but far from finished

Broke a milestone today this puppy left the garage and went down the street under its own power. I have been going at it every weekend this past month. Install all new brake parts, installed a Hurst shifter, finished tying up the exhaust and had a one-piece drive shaft fabricated. Rigged up some temporary wiring and a couple of gauges so I can run it from the cockpit. I need to get some fat tires under it because it just boils it even while rolling, Eventually a posi unit is going to have to be installed.

Had a few problems, can get the brake line from the master to the proportion valve to stop leaking. New lines…. new master…..what the heck is the problem?

The Carb just doesn’t want to idle in gear most of the time. This is the first time I have used an Edelbrock and it kinda of odd but I can’t even start the motor unless the choke is closed. Its not like a holly where the accelerator pump dumps in a lot of fuel….is that normal for these? Maybe I should go to an electric choke? What are your experiences with the Edelbrocks?

-Congrats on the short ride.....

As far as the brake leak a little more info might help. Which line and which end, prop end or master end? Did you replace that line? I'm not that familiar with those setups but you may have a short flare nut where you need a long flare nut. If you use the wrong one the hex where the wrench fits, bottoms out on the casting before the flare seats down inside. Hope that isn't too confusing but it's hard for me to explain....

Edit: I see you said new lines and looking at the picture again it doesn't look like the hex on the nuts are bottomed out... Hummm.

Not confusing at all I understand what your saying, it is the correct nut.

Its on the MS side, front line (disc side). I tried the old loosen and retighten trick several times it still leaks. I hope it’s not the master, I may try to cut and re-flare the line, but there may not be enough tube to do that. I will call the vender I bought the line kit from and see if they send me out another tube.

On your carb, are you getting the vaccum from the carb or intake for your power brakes? If all else fails watch their online tuning video on their site, it has a lot of trouble shooting tips. I never have had a problem with mine. NICE TRUCK BTW!

Re: It drives....LOL... but far from finished

It the line had a burr where it was flared you can get a small "kink" in te edge that can let some of the fluid escape.

Among the other things it does -- closing the choke increases manifold vacuum. You might want to check for vacuum integrity.

Sweet looking machine! Are you going to fab a top for it or will it be strictly a fair weather cruiser?
