Painting Door Panels w/Marhyde or Duplicolor
Anyone ever done this? It has been years since I have but since I can't get any stock white '68 panels I am thinking about painting some tan ones white with Marhyde or Duplicolor vinyl paint. Anyone have better luck with another product?

Mike.. I have used various different ones over the years. and have found that the "SEM" brand vinyl spray seems to hold up the best and last the longest

Re: Painting Door Panels w/Marhyde or Duplicolor
I've used marhyde quite a few times. I think the prep work determines how it will look as a finished product. I usuallly clean the panel with TSP and a brush, then use dupont wax & grease remover before spraying.
Of course being a door panel it may have to be touched up once in a while from your arm rubbing up against it.

Re: Painting Door Panels w/Marhyde or Duplicolor
Thanks guys...Ill try it. I did some seats on a hot rod years ago and they lasted a year on the seats with lots of use so door panels should last alot longer. The new "PERFECTLY EXACT" restorations cost more than the truck...but that is not saying much...LOL! I'll look for some SEM and Big D thanks for the reminer on the Prep-Sol or wax and grease remover. I will buy new skins ($74/set) so they should not have any Armorall on them!

I have had good luck with the duplicolor too. Like the others said, being clean is the secret. Also do several lite coats with the first 2 or 3 coats being more or a dusting.

Re: Painting Door Panels w/Marhyde or Duplicolor
I've always used Krylon or Dupli-color "Satin" paints on "Plastic" door panels, which these are. Use 2 or 3 light coats. Again, clean well before using. I wipe them down with either alcohol, or thinner. I think that the vinyl paints do not work as well on plastic and do not hold up. IMO, they are meant for vinyl and upholstery.

Re: Painting Door Panels w/Marhyde or Duplicolor
I have "dyed" alot of vinyl and plastic interior parts, always you an adhesion promotor and clean the hell out of it, acetone works as good as any, just check the material in a small area with what you are cleaning it with just to make sure it dosen't "gum" the material. On some items I have used regular old krylon brand paint (don't forget the adhesion promotor) Wal-Mart has it in the auto paint/body section. It is worth it to spend a few extra bucks here.. I have used the duplicolor on exterior plastic pieces like the grille teeth and held up fine. I have a couple Mopars and they all have been duplicolored and dyed on panels, pieces you can't buy new.

Re: Painting Door Panels w/Marhyde or Duplicolor
I just painted my door panels and visors with PlasticKote brand vinyl paint. I was real pleased with the results. Haven't put them to the test though as far as durability.
