Windshield and back window install Q's

I took out my small back window out of 65' and its been out ever since (about a week). I have spent about 3 hrs trying to put it back in, to no avail. I've tried the rope trick and everything. I only took it out to tint it and install new rubber. I haven't touched the windshield yet, luckily. I might have to sub this out... I haven't subbed out ANYTHING on this truck, but these windows are killin' me! Any advice?

Why won't the rope work? Lube up the gasket, and it should go right in. Use either aerosol glass cleaner, or a dish soap/water mix in a spray bottle.

Well, I'm using military 550 parachute cord. Its about a 1/8 in dia. Is this too small? And Roger that, on the lube. Actually, I dont think I used anywhere near enough the first attempt. Gettin' ready for round 2.Let me know if I should get a bigger dia piece of rope. Thanks, Bro.

The rope should be fine. start it towards one side at the top, wrap it completely around teh gasket (setting the rope down in the groove), and overlap it at the top. Pull the cord that is on the bottom of the two to start. And spray the crap out of the lube. It won't hurt anything.


Strike that, pull the upper of the rope first

ive always used an assistant on the backside to apply slight inward pressure on the window while you pull the rope. ive been using the same rope for years and its about a 3/16". i really dont think size matters. the trick is getting it started. once it gets started it slides right in. but the assistant on the backside holding a little pressure sure helps.

I've never needed a rope on a back window of these trucks. The back window is usually easy. I would use a gasket with a locking strip. 10 minute job

I had a window installer put in the rear window(small). He had a tough time and almost couldn't get it in. He had me and someone else put pressure on the window from different sides.. He also said that he has known the small windows to pop out easily sometimes..

I kind of remember him saying something about the new rubber seals making it hard to install.

We use only Precision Brand gaskets and never have had a problem. We have had problems with less expensive brands.

tell me if its a stupid idea or not, but you know how you freeze rubber bushings before install, would this work on window rubber, or would it just make things harder?

My prob is this, Most peeps tell me to install the seal around the window, then install the window in the truck. Well the new rubber DOES NOT want to stay around the corners, which, in turn, wont let me get the window in. I have tried it both ways, but to no avail. I cant even keep the rubber on the window long enough to get the rope around it! I am about a day away from calling a pro.

try using tape to keep it on the glass

Never done it but seen it on Trucks tv. I believe he wrapped the gasket around the glass with the string inserted into the gasket where it seals to the truck. Then with someone applying pressure on the opposite end he easily pulled the string through pulling the gasket around the window frame.

I was looking through your website and did not find the front and rear window gaskets. Did I miss them somewhere? Anyone else want to chime in on who you think make the best windshield gaskets? Good and bad experiences are welcome because I would like to do this, but I only want to do it once.

We use Precision because we asked the older glass shops that have been in business a long time in Houston what brand they used and most all we asked said to use Precision so thats why we sell them
