Question Holly electric fuel pump help (pic)

OK I found this pump at a local junk yard under a big block powered P30. I plugged it in and it fires up. My question is what is the blue thing attached to it?
I would imagine its a regulator. I want to use this to feed my 800 cfm q jet thats bolted to my 400 horse 350.
Now if that is a regulator how do I adjust it and what should I adjust it to? I know that the q jets are more sensitive to fuel pressure so This is important to get right. So fire away if you can help thanks.

Don't run the pump dry; fuel lubricates the pump

You're absolutely correct - it's a regulator. I suggest 6-7 PSI. The set-screw on the top of the regulator is how it's adjusted.

You shouldn't need a regulator on the holley red pump. It has a max pressure of 7psi. Here's a link to Holley.

I would imagine that a return line of some sort should be rigged up thou, right?

I just purchased a Holley Blue pump, the directions said to mount the fuel pump as close to the fuel supply as possible and the regulator as close to the carb as possible. If that helps future plans at all.
Oh, they also said to mount the pump below the lowest point of the tank, to create a siphon effect, because these pumps are designed to push fuel not pull.
And they said to add an inline 7.5 amp fuse to the positive wire.

These were directions from a BLUE Holley, I'm assuming their the same, I could be wrong.

No need for a return line, the fuel pressure/volume isn't high enough.

wouldn't the pump try to keep pushing the fuel after the needle and seat closed and destroy it self?

It has a built in pressure relief. If you look at the tech instructions in the link it tells you how to clean the pump and relief. You might want to do it since it came from a salvage yard and might have been sitting for a while.

Heres how I mounted mine, Blue pump is right by the tank by the frame. Regulator by the carb. Bought a gauge to set it.
