Ring & Pinion issues-8 lug - 3/4 ton

I'm looking for suggestions or comments.. Thanks..
The story: Purchased a 67 3/4 ton, th400, coils all the way around, Eaton rear, 32" commercial truck tires on 16 " rims, Drum brakes- 8 lug,,,
Truck was carrying an Alaskan POPup camper ( approx 1600lbs ). i had wanted to ditch the tall tires to rid myself of the tire 'whine' on the freeway.....

I sold the camper to pay for a disc brake/ power booster set up, Then added drop spindles & coils. Found a great set 8 lug- 17" Weld Conehead wheels, added a set of Continental radials- only the tires are 28" tall.

Now it's hard to go over 50 mph, that ole 350 is really spinning and loud , too , Geared too high.

Question - did years/ models did GM offer other diff. that were 8-lug but better gearing, I must have 4:10 gears.

the truck just looks fast , & the mileage went south...
any help or suggestions please..
Thanks, jim

Re: Rack & pinion issues

you can get a stock dana from a 68 - 72 from a big block truck, it'll have 3.54 unless otherwise optioned. Otherwise, 4.10 and 4.57 is about all you'll find.
