Replacing original wiring
I would like to go thru and replace all the wiring in my '67 K10. Painless wiring has a universal kit. I was just wondering how well it works, and the ease of installation. The other part of this is would it be worth the money to buy the reproduction wiring harnesses from LMC, it appears from their catalog that I would have to get 12 different harnesses. It would be great to hear from people who have done it, and the pros and cons of each, or even if there is a better wiring kit to get. A more distant goal is to put tuned port injection on a 283. Is this feasible? I really did like the 283 I had in it, it was balanced, "300 horse cam" (not sure on that), camel back heads(I don't recall the itake valve size), edelbrock performer intake, Holley 600cfm carb. Currently I have a 350 crate engine. I believe the 283 preformed better that than this stock 350 does. The reason I asked about the fuel injection is If I do all the new wiring how much of it will I have to splice into to make the fuel injection. Just trying to get the ducks in a row.
'67 K10 damn near stock, lookin to take the best of then blend it with the best of now, and see what comes out |

A healthy 350 is easier to make power with than a 283.... more cubes = more power potential. I've heard good things about Painless and also Ron Francis Wire Works.... LMC seems to be higher priced than most, and 12 harnesses seems unnecessary. You can buy a harness made for a fuel injection swap also... good luck.

I would talk to Ron Francis and Painless.Tell them your overall plan and see if they can set you up with a harness to run what you currently have and later add the Injection. If they have all the info they should be able to accomodate your needs. It will probably cost a few $$$ more to begin with but if it works out to be Plug & Play, you will be miles ahead in the end.

The wiring harness for the TPI is a stand alone unit, it has no effect on the original harness. All the pieces you would need for the TPI harness will come with it.

I just (well, almost) finished a Painless rewire job on my '67 C-10 (carbed 350/4spd) last weekend. Still running a few left over wires. I bought the '67-'72 version, got it from Jegs. Had to read the instructions over a couple of times, but did not have any problem with the installation.
If only they could print the wire labels a little BIGGER!!! This old fart had to use a magnifying glass to read them, LOL.

I also have used the Painless Kit for my '69. It uses all factory connectors, the only difference is the fuse block is the newer blade fuse style. I got the 18 circuit kit, so I have a few wires left over, but I might use them for things other than designed. Very complete kit, nice to have each wire labeled as to what it goes to. And not juse on one end or the other, but the entire length. It coincides with factory wiring colors too.
One thing I recommend though is getting a bunch of convulated tubing, a few various sizes. Wrap the wires in that tubing, it just makes it look so much cleaner. you'll get tons of compliments on how clean the wiring is with the tubing over it. I only have a 4 inch section exposed right off the fuse block. The rest is covered. Helps protect the wiring also. Less chance of it rubbing on the frame or something else. If you've got any questions at all, ask away. I'll help ya any way I can. I'm kinda an electrical specialist, not by choice, at a shop. Seth Petro God bless America

I ordered 3 wiring harnesses from GMC Paul. One was for the 350 w/ HEI, other one was for the headlights for my 69 GMC and the third was for the A/C harness. All three fit like a glove. Paul did an excellent job of wlking me thru the order to make sure I got what I needed. My vote to GMCPaul.
