On top of the framerail in the engine compartment. It is near the steering box.

Re: location of frame vin

I know it is there on a 1972 and a 1969. I am not sure about earlier ones. A GMC should be the same.

Re: location of frame vin

Thanks for all the help. I have looked from the steering box to the cross member, with no luck. This truck was titled as a 68 GMC. It is six hole, drumb brake frt. and rear, with leafs. Would that make any difference, it being GMC? I have a 71 chevy C/10 lwb 2x4 that I am trying to find a good/straight frame for. It was wrecked on the passenger side front when I bought it. Was there a chevy six hole, half ton, rear leaf, drumb brake built in 71?

Re: location of frame vin

No. all of the half ton Chevy's in 71 were disc brake 5 lug. The vin should be several inches back from the steering box on top of the frame. It all fits to be a 68 GMC> That would have been a drum brake, 6 lug, and I think more likely to have leaf springs. If you want to use the frame, you can. You will have to keep the leaves, But the frame itself will fit. Use the control arms off of the 71, and the spindles, etc. You will have to weld up some stands on the leaves, though.

I believe there are two vin # on these trucks. There is also one underneath the cab on top of the frame? If you can lift the cab maybe you can angle a mirror to see the numbers.

Re: location of frame vin

I'm trying to make it as close to original or correct as possible. I'm going to keep looking for this vin. I'm sure it has to be there some where. This is just a roller no body. I do have a title. The vin # is CS10DPB13709. I haven't been able to exactly crack this one eithor. It seems to have letter where I should have numbers? I'm starting to think that it would be best to find a 71 roller and leave this one for another day.
