Attaching firewall insulation

I'M installing new firewall insulation pad and the plastic push pins seem to big. They do not want to go in. Is there a special tool to drive them in? Whats the trick?

Re: Attaching firewall insulation

I have not done this on our trucks but I have done it. make sure the inner dia. of the pin is not bigger than the hole. Then I use the top of a hammer (where the handle come out the top) not the head unless you have a tight spot

x2 on the hammer, although I would use something closer to the actual diameter(maybe 3/8" socket extention) of the plug and tap on it using the hammer to drive the plug in.

Also a little liquid soap or radiator hose grease works wonders too.

Re: Attaching firewall insulation

I'm pretty sure that I saw an installation tool for the firewall insulation holders. I think it was in a Truck Shop catalog. It was a simple step shaft. Wasn't very expensive if I recall.
