Question about door glass.
I've got a quick question, today at a swap meet I saw a set of what appeared to be stock 49 chevy truck doors with one piece glass, my question is did some 47-53 chevys come with one piece door glass?
ok, i think ive got it 47-51 chevys came with one piece door glass correct? Now a new question i have a 53 and want one piece door glass, can i just take out the vent window and order the guts for a 47-51 or is it eaiser to just get doors for a 47-51? Re: Question about door glass.
That depends on the shape your doors are in, are they going to be used on your truck or not? The doors interchange and the vent windows and push button handles came later.
esll.

Re: Question about door glass.
The doors will fit but the latches will be different, now is a good time to look at bear claws !

Re: Question about door glass.
I highly recomend the Bearclaw latches. I drove my '54 stock for 2 years and had my door(s) pop open twice while driving and hitting a bump. The old style latches aren't as good as the newer saftey latches. I have the earlier doors/handles/lock on my '54 with the single window. I replaced the entire door and had the newer latches installed. I never liked the wind wing look and the '54 handles. My mom on the other hand loves her's. Just my .02

I lock my doors on my 50' and never had this happen when they were locked. My truck also has only 70,000 miles on it so my latches really have no wear. Do you think that all these latches that G.M. made were poor in quality or could it be different wear factors that should be addressed as well. ("IMHO") esll.

Re: Question about door glass.
The newer latches from 53 up are superior to the older style, but they both suck. Its flat out a poor design.

You will need 47 to 50 doors and a 47 to 5o set of strikers. Change your strikers and swap the doors and go cruzin. From what I've been told swaping the glass is a night mare. There are allot of little differences internally with vent window doors and non vent window doors. If you want to read more info go to the HAMB /Hokey Message Board and look for QUESTION ABOUT DOOR GLASS. esll.
