Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
Add the lift, but start saving for some larger tires, 33's or maybe 35". Your 31's will look small with the lift.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
Few things look more retarded than a lift with tiny tires. If you are going to get more body clearance, get more axle clearance with larger tires.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
I would stay stock height with 31" tires. If you go 4", then upgrade to 33" tires.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
2" with 285/75/16 (33x11.5) ought to work also, or may need a TINY trim on the bottom corner of the front of the front wheel well opening.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
that's neat paint, green outside and blue inside! just kidding,,,, nice set of trucks...
Here's my stock K-10 w/ 33's x 10.5's I'm adding a "add-a-leaf" to the rear to take out any sag and maybe add an inch or so. If you lift then you have to make it look like one of the above trucks, 33" min or 35"....

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
I agree if you get the 4" lift get some 33''s atleast. Big lift and small tires = major dorky look.

I'd say stay like you are, but if you're going to lift it, you'll need bigger than 31's...

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
Like it was said before, if you are only going to have 31's you don't need to lift it. If you want to put a 4" kit under it, then plan on getting larger tires (33 or 35's) down the road. I thought mine looked a little goofy with 33's and the 4" lift But i couldn't afford to do the lift and tires at the same time. So I bought the 35's later. The look is a ton better as the 35's fill the space better and make it look less top heavy. In other words the 35's made it look more proportional.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
mine are 33 x 10.5 all depends on tire brand, rim width and backspace. Worn springs will alter things too so it's hard to pick a "perfect" combo unless you try it. Of course you could do Dustin's 6" lift and not worry about anything less than 3 foot tires!

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
Currenly installing the 4" lift. My question is that my front drive shaft at the front u-joint there is only 1 not the normal 2. Is this normal? the LMC catalog shows a shaft with a total of 3 universals in it - also seems to be to short to reach the yoke when fully extended. Mine only has 2 front and back. Is the 73 and up driveshaft interchangable?
Thanks. wpvtx |

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
Heres some picks of the truck. Not much to look at right now but she will get there. As for the front driveshaft this is fully extended and binds when rotated at this angle. So thats why im trying to look into a 73 and up shaft. All the junk yards around here are more of scrap yards - they dont hang onto anything older than 7 to 10 years old.

The wifes reaction is not going to be nice when I tell her I need to replace the brand new 31" tires with 33 or 35's lol.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
Not yet. BUT looking at my rearch/add a leaf lift from the spring shop on Mossy Cup in Boise, the 285/75/16's would look most proportional. I still may try to shove 35's in there, but trimming will be required, and I will almost certainly need to put a sway bar on to limit wheel travel. The nice thing is, the stock rims on my rig are 7.5" wide, and they will work fine for the 285/75's, saving me the cost of wider rims at a time when I plan on spending a lot on the truck.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
If you need to go cheap, you can go the way I did on lift, with the tires that I outlined. Trade in your 31's at les schwab if you have them in your part of the o****ry, shouldn't cost too much to upgrade.

Re: 4" lift with 31"tires?
One of the funniest things I have seen was when i was in Guam. You would see all these wicked trucks with huge lifts and a ton of suspension work running around town on 4 spares. Little 15" steels with car tires and it made me laugh every time.
I asked a guy at a local shop why they were all like that and he said it was for work. These guys put all this money into the truck, but still use them as daily drivers. So rather than wear out the tires they use on the weekend for wheeling, they run street tires (like the monster truck loading picture). Then as soon as work is done on Friday, out come the boggers for play time. Still made me laugh every time I saw it.
