Removing the speedo needle?

Could someone please help me figure out how to remove the speedo needle?
I'm trying to switch speedometers without damage.
Thank you.

Re: Removing the speedo needle?

I've always been able to just pull them right off. I'm sure there's a better way though.

Re: Removing the speedo needle?

I'll bet that gold looks nice. Well, I gave it a good hard steady pull. It didn't budge. What I'll do is just paint the needles orange. I was putting my original speedo in a tach cluster. My speedo needle is really faded. All the needles in the new cluster look pretty good. Need to get the paint and I'm also waiting for a new wiper switch I ordered. I'll take a pic when I'm done.

Re: Removing the speedo needle?

Church key might work if you pad the face of the dial. I was afraid to mess with mine, so I just isolated the gauge part in saranwrap/paper/masking tape and left the needle exposed. Then I shot it with a flourescent red/orange spray paint and was pleased with the result. Same process for gas gauge too.
[*a church key is a can-opener if you're too young to remember when beer needed to be opened with a tool.]

Re: Removing the speedo needle?

Church key--how quaint! Sort of like a fax machine.

I remember when pop/soda bottles were opened with the other end of a church key, but beer cans had the pull tabs that actually came off... I've seen pics though.

I picked up a bright orange paint pen from a craft store, masked behind the needle and painted them. Never thought to remove 'em.
