Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

I came across one of these on ebay and supposedly the produce some high CFM, but I was curious if the electrical system needed to be upgraded and if they work that well. I found an old thread but it didn't give much info. If any one could help and if you can show how you installed the would be great, since this fan is a dual speed fan.
Thanks

Yes, from what I've researched, you'll want to upgrade to a higher output alternator. The 94amp alt from a 84-86 HO 5.0ltr Camaro supposedly uses the same physical size housing.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

I'm running one with an internally regulated alt, but not the 94 amp model. It's keeping up so far but I'm expecting to upgrade it when it starts getting hot.
That fan is keeping my 454 cool so far. The install wasn't too bad, the only part I don't like is that the shroud doesn't cover my whole radiator core.
I'm using a variable speed control similar to the SPAL controller and I like it. You just wire it thru the high speed power wire and the controller takes care of everything else.

Re: Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

Thanks for the help, I was concerned that the system couldn't handle it or the fan wouldn't get the job done. Arizona summers can put the cooling system to the test...but sounds like I can make this work.

Thanks

Yep, I've got the same wiring set-up.

When I got it, they said the standard 6Xamp alt would work w/my basic set-up (no a/c, no F.I., no pwr acc. other than an in-dash CD player) but that I might see some issues @ night w/the wipers, stereo, & lights on while sitting in traffic.

Re: Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

So far with lights, wipers, blower motor, efi, and the cooling fan all running I've had no problems. We'll see how long that 60ish amp alternator will last. It's not too often that all that stuff is running at once...
Scoti, what fan controller are you using? I've got the Delta Current Control. It works well, but their customer service really sucked.

I have the Spal controller. Supposed to be the same as the DCC w/less CS hassle.

Re: Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

Where can you get your controller? Is that the actual name or does Spal stand for something? Thanks

Re: Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

SPAL is a company that sells fans & other electrical stuff. They have a website with all the info. Look at the PWM fan controller.

Thanks for the help this is starting to make sense. I did have a couple questions after going to the website.

Did you guy's use the factory Temp Sensor or ?

Did you you use ther Fan Relay Harness they sell or ?

Did you hook it to the ignition swithc or run it to a full time power source?

And my last question is about the set up for the A/C, they recommend and addtion harness for the A/C...did you run the addtion harness or ?

I appreciate all the help, looks like I'll be spending some more money

Re: Lincoln Mark 8 Electric fan

The controller I have has it's own temp sender and there's no relay needed.
I did run it to full time power so it would help with heat soak when parked. It doesn't run for very long after eng shut-off, maybe a minute or 2.
I don't have my a/c running yet, but I'll use the input for it when I do. It runs the fan at 50% when the compressor is engaged.
One nice thing about the DCC fan controller is that you don't need any additional harnesses, everything is in the kit. The bad thing about them is that I had to file a dispute thru PayPal to get any kind of response from them. All I wanted was a shipping/order/backorder status. I got no responses at all thru any of their contact info on the site. It took 6 weeks to get my stuff with no kind of "sorry it's on backorder" info.
