broken bell housing
A freind of mine has a '69 C-10 with
a 454 and a power glide. It has broken the bell housing on 3 transmissions. I havn't seen the truck, so I am basing my info on what he is telling me. Is a 454 too much for a powerglide? The only thing I can think of would be the engine is lifting up on accelleration and the bellhousing is hitting the cab causing it to break! Thanks for any help! ------------------

that is not a normal problem, that is drivetrain alignemnt problem
driveshaft being out of alignment(side to side) will cause that, the action of the shaft trying to straighten out and be in perfect alignment from output shaft of the p/g and to the pinion of the rear axle wil cause the tranny tail to be pulled to left or right, whichever is needed, to straighten out the driveshaft, and if motor mouns wont flex, then pop goes the bellhousing. i owuld check out driveshaft alignment, especially if is not original or he is using non stock crossmember or has modified rear suspension ------------------ Randy- Lincoln, IL r68c30@hotmail.com 2177353230 -71 C-10 350/CH465/3.07, assemble it, yeah right, that'll happen in this world,(not) -84 Z28 Camaro 5.0L 700R4, 3.73, beater, paid way too much for it like an idiot,, -84 Firebird SE 2.8L T-5, rod knocking, dammit,, -82 Firebird 350 4bolt (TBL)/TH350, not running, dammit... buy/sell/hoard/trade most any GM vehicle parts of any kind -parting out: '81 Cutlass Supreme Brougham *Paint is overrated © RSS Enterprises 2000 [This message has been edited by Fast68Chevy (edited April 26, 2002).] |

Powerglide case can take 1000hp if everything else is right. I think fast is on the right track with the drivline out of alignment. Truck may have been wrecked at one time. Time to start measureing. Also could be he is running a solid trans mount.
