A Viair 450 is the most reliable for what I have seen. My friend has had one with a water trap and its lasted 5 yrs so far. AZ's are hiy and miss and have had a bunch of recalls. I might try one in a year or so when all the bugs are worked out.

honestly i'd look into an engine driven. you can get a good york for around 70bucks and just make the brackets to mount it.
i've got an AZ but thats gonna run ya around $300. other than that the 450 is a great choice.

Re: around $200.00 budget for compressor
i have a 450 and airzenith.. i used the viair for about 3 1/2 years then just switched to AZ a few months ago. i didnt have a problem with my 450 but i wanted a higher psi rated compressor and something alittle faster.. max pressure on the 450 is 150 and 200 on the AZ. if you do go with viair i would recommend going with one of their "dual packs"

I'd recommend viair. I've had mine for 3 years w/ no issues at all.

You can get them at Oreilly Auto Parts. Ask for one for about a 79?? ford truck.. Or if he is a good parts guy just ask him for a "York" style compressor.

An EDC is the only way you'll fill 12 gallons with any kind of speed, especially with only $200. I run a Viair 460 (improved 450) and I get sick of waiting on 3 gallons, let alone 4x that. I plan on tossing on a York ($25) and upping to 5 gallons soon.

12 gallons is a LOT of volume for one compressor! If you really want 12 gallons, you'd be better off with an EDC.
