Testing a Factory AM Radio

I have the factory AM radio out of my 72 and also a tested working one I bought on evilbay as well as a new factory speaker because the one I had was a mouse nest. I plugged everything back in last night and can’t get either of the radios to do anything. I have followed the power wire that plugs into the speaker connection to the fuse box and it seems to be fine (no breaks). Any suggestions on how I can test these to see where my problem is?? Can I go direct from the positive post on the battery to the positive input on the radio? I don’t want to blow anything up in the process – my wife still can’t understand why I want a AM radio in the truck to begin with or why I would want to spend all my free time messing (her words) with a beat up old truck. Thanks for your help!

I did and it seems to be fine - I will replace it just to be on the safe side.

Re: Testing a Factory AM Radio

First off, I think you have found my wife!

Second, yes the radio needs to be grounded.

Thirdly, take a test light and check if you have power at the fuse box and and the end of the wire.

Re: Testing a Factory AM Radio

Thanks to everyone who responded – I didn’t realize that they had to be grounded – I will check them tonight after I ground them and I am sure they will work – I am new at this and I have allot to learn. I would be totally lost without this site and all your help.
Thanks again – I am sure this won’t be my last question.
