Later Model in dash Delco Radios

Just wondering if a later model GM Delco truck or car radio would fit in our 67-72 trucks?

Most of the later models have a larger face plate so you would have to hack the hole to make it fit.I tried one out of a 80 camaro that looked like that and gave up cause I didn't want to cut.

Don't wanna hijack, but does any one make a modern radio that fits in the factory holes without cutting the dash??

Those mid 80's radios have terrible sound quality... I've still got that identical radio in my truck, which has been there since it was first made in 1980

Most vendors have am-fm radios that look like the oems. (I think)

the moron PO of my truck had the radio on the right side in my dash (he took out the ashtray and hacked up all of the factory AC stuff to get it in there (including cutting on the dash)

I am going with a radio delete plate and just putting a satellite radio in..

goodluck but I dont think there is an easy inexpensive fix that doesnt involve cutting your dash..

I know i have a kenwood with cd changer controls, and a JVC, both shaft style cassette players from the late 90's that worked well when removed. They're in a box someplace but I'm not sure where. If i find them, i will post them up.

I was really hoping it would fit in the stock opening.

I figured it would look almost stock, have FM, and not cost too much. But I will not cut the dash to fit anything.

how far off is it? could you neatly trim the radio face itself? Im thinking that's what the PO of my truck did because the center rectangle was a little bigger than a stock radio....

I thought of trimming the radio too. I will have to look at one closely. I figured it was a standard size opening on most 70s and 80s vehicles.

Looking at my pictures again, I wonder if you pulled the tuning, volume knobs and nuts off if that black plastic trim piece will come off and then it would fit.
Just a hunch anyway...

I measured the front of a 78 AM/FM Delco radio. If the black plastic piece comes off the chrome face part is actually a little smaller than the stock AM. I may still try this.

Grandpa had already trimmed the dash to make an 8-track fit, so I made it a little more precise and slipped the AM/FM in there, but as the link above mentions (that was my pic, by the way), it was a pain in the butt. I have since switched cabs and will not do that again.
I think that radio is still in the cab if you want it. It has already been cut down in the back to clear the firewall cowl. Just shoot me a PM. I will look this afternoon and verify that it is still out there.
