Got some seats

Picked these up yesterday and are just mocked in. Have to build brackets yet. Came out of a 94 GMC Jimmy. All leather and a lot more comfort. Got shoulder harness's yet to installl. Going to attach to roll bar.
Nothing at all wrong with original seats. There aren't any tears or rips in them, just wanted a more comfortable seat. Back seat fit really good, which surprised me. It tips and slides forward for a little extra room.
This project has evolved enough that I may soon have to change my avatar .

Re: Got some seats

Looks good Dave!!! It's funny you posted this thread with those seats. I was at a junkyard over in Clio yesterday, measuring a set on Jimmy seats identical to those. The passenger seat was tore up so I passed. Keep me updated on your brackets. By the way, Is the MICHIGAN COOKOUT still on for June 16? Hopefully I'll check'em out there.

Re: Got some seats

I really like those seats. Are you going to put shoulder straps in the back seat too?

Wow, those look really good and the backseat looks like it was made for the first gen!

Re: Got some seats

Thanks for the props guys. These were actually given to me, a guy I know owed me a favor and was gonna crush the Jimmy.
Bouncytruck:Not sure yet about shoulder belts in back. I'll have to figure that one out later.
Shock_me: Made roll bar, some where on here is thread.
JOJO: Had some issues with brackets. Dinked around all morning trying to figure out how to do this without sacrificing stock brackets. The back is tough enough to get in with roll bar there, and tipping seats with high backs just didn't seem to work for me. Check this out and tell me what ya think.
Swivel buckets like were in the '75 malibu classics. Just have to bolt them down to original bolt holes.

Shame I already have my seats, I like that idea alot. You just might start a run on swivel seats, they look great in there. Might be easier to get my wifey up in there, she's only 5' tall, but she'll tell you she's 5' 1"

Nice work, and thanks for the heads up. J.

Thumbs up Re: Got some seats

Thanks Jim, along as she goes with, that's what counts.
cstanley- I'll take pics and post as I go through making brackets. The rear seems like it should be easier than front. Looks to be about a 3 1/2 inch block in back side and bolt down. Fit is really good. Has about 3/4 inch clearance on each side from wheel wells. There are cut-outs in seats for belts.

Re: Got some seats

Made some progress on the seat brackets today. Had to scratch my head on how to control the swivel of the buckets, but think I have that figr'd out.
Had to modify the rollbar to get the seats to recline, but sawzall, welders, and inspiration overcomes all I will get pics posted tomorrow. Jaross44 if you want dimensions I can send them. Jojotonka bring your tape measure. This is gonna be a great cookout here in Mi., and anyone close enough needs to take a day and take a ride. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend in July due to moving that weekend but my prayers are with those traveling and attending.

Hey Dave, I agree those seats look right for the first gen. How do you plan to attach the shoulder belts to the roll bar?

You'll be here in June?

Looking forward to those pics. BTW, do you know what other cars came with the swivel buckets. I remember the 75 Monte Carlos came with them also, as an option. I may have to keep my eyes open for some.

Re: Got some seats

Tim, I'll be there....gotta have somebody tap the keg-right? The 75 and 76 chevy's had the swivels. Like monte's, malibu's and camino's. Not sure what else. This set up is patterned off of an el camino a friend of mine has.
Danl-I am going to make a plate to weld to rollbar. Drill through both for alignment, weld a nut on back of plate, enlarge hole in rollbar and weld plate to bar. This way there is a backing nut and any stress will be distributed over a larger area. I thought it would be cool to make plate shaped like a bowtie, but don't know if I will have time. All of new seat belts will be through floor to a 3/8 plate underneath for support.

A couple more pics of brackets for seats and mod to rollbar. Notice the finely crafted set-up for back seat!!!

Re: Got some seats

Testing my memory here. I have a set of swivel seats in my 70 k5 out of a 74 laguna. Held up good for years, but now need replacing. The swivel really helps out, getting in the back. These seats are still really comfortable, even when their about worn out! No pic's, but I'm working on photobucket. Had bolts welded to the floor for mounts, but in process of researching a cage setup. Time to go all the way!
