What should I do?
I have posted on this subject before. But now I have come to a fork in the road. Should I cut the bed corner out and replace or should I replace the whole bed side? I have a perfect LWB bed side without trim holes, then I have my 69 CSt bed side corner with trim holes. Dont know what will be the cheapest and easiest. Thanks for the input.

Re: What should I do?
personally? I'd cut the corner. But that's just me.

Re: What should I do?
can you do body work to include good welding?
I can't, I'd swap the bed side/whole bed out. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 04-25-2007 at 07:07 PM. |

Re: What should I do?
I can weld just fine. But I am a far cry from a bodyman.

Re: What should I do?
find a fender or some old body panels to practice on, then weld away..

Re: What should I do?
I do some body work but I am by no means a body man.
I say replace the whole side then you know there NO bodywork to come back on ya no matter what. IMO it would probably be faster to. |

Re: What should I do?
I say replace the whole side but im a good welder too but a much better body man I would pull that out and use my sculpting skills to fix the corner if I wanted to go cheap but I like going the best way. replace the side.

Re: What should I do?
I bet replacing the bedside might be the easiest route, but If you have access to a few metal shaping tools and a stud welder that dent could be pulled out. the metal around the taillight might be a little tricky to get right with the limited space in the cavity to use a hammer.
By reading your post I'm not sure you were going to fix it youself or have a bodyshop do it. this would run up a bunch of hours of labor to have a shop do it You could always give it a try, If your not happy with the results put on the other bedside.

Re: What should I do?
I think you guys are right. I will probably lay out the trim hole, drill,block/primer then paint the other bed side. Thanks for all the advice. I've seen it done on shortening a bed but dont really have the confidence in myself to tackle the cut and repair.

Re: What should I do?
Just think after you replace the whole bedside you have a nice bedside panel to use as a practice bodywork panel then. For your spare time like any of us have spare time.

Re: What should I do?
I think your on the right track with replacing the bedside. The largest hazard of welding in a new corner is heat warping. The dent could be pulled ( Time consuming ) or welded, but both take practice. I agree that you will have a nice bedside to practice on when you get done. Just my .02.
