Last week I picked up this bad boy for $1300... saving for a later project.

Has a GMC bed, wood floor. Too bad the gate is in bad shape... might be able to fix it a tad.

A/C, original radio, bullet-looking hole in dash, is the CUSTOM emblem supposed to be screwed into the glovebox front?

Too bad 'spring' hasn't fully arrived yet, lousy Colorado weather...

The engine has a Q-jet 4bbl, usual rust areas in cab/floor, bench seat is vinyl but the build sheet says 'red cloth trim', shouldn't that include the seat? Anyways, there it is! Any ideas on a name? 'Money Pit' has arleady been suggested by my girlfriend to my disapproval.

Re: quick "Look what I got"

My glove box emblem was screwed on also, and no its not suppost to be like that. I bought a new one and covers the holes from the screws. Mine also has the chalk marks on the firewall it is neat to think they are still there after 39 years!

Is that a bullet hole in the dash there? Was this truck on ebay? It looks really familiar.

Re: quick "Look what I got"

I have always called the SPID the build sheet... what's SPID mean again?

Yes the truck was an ebay score, it was about 45 miles away so I figured I'd give it a shot. If it was anywhere else (further away) I would have passed. There's no reason for me to bid on a truck in Maine when I live in Colorado- shipping wise.

No concrete plans for it now, have been thinking about how to do a 4 link rear to get rid of the trailing arms. I'd like to keep it pretty factory/original but we all know how that goes.. First thing is rebuilding the engine and sheetmetal work. That bed is in pretty good shape, it had the auxillary tanks so there are filler neck holes on both sides but I have plenty of extra metal for that. The wood is bad (as always) but the rear corners are excellent, not dented or smashed in like so many others.

My 67 K10 (Mavis) is getting jealous so I have to get her 292 back together soon. Then I can start sealing and priming and painting and reassembly!!!

Re: quick "Look what I got"

Cool truck, thought I had seen it before. Looks like it may even have the dealer installed step in the GMC bed, too cool. I for one think you should keep the bullet hole in the dash too, adds character.

Re: quick "Look what I got"

Why would you ditch the trailing arms? That is one of the best design aspects of these trucks. Nascar thinks they are a good idea, Check out Hot Rods to Hell website; they sell the truck trailing arm setup for muscle cars... its that good.

Re: quick "Look what I got"

A 4-link is just an idea but after checking into it I'll just stay with the arms. And I too think the hole in the dash adds character... like I need any more of that!

I've got a '71 GMC parts truck that has the emblem on the glove box... it's all original . I don't know what to say?

Re: quick "Look what I got"

Nice find. The glove box emblems on the 68 Customs and CSTs simply said "Chevrolet" on them. Nothing more.
