Any remedy for broken screws
Anyone come up with a way to install the trim pieces when the plastic screws break off? My dash trim around the A/C vents is perfect, or was, but now I cant put the A/C vents on with no screws.....

Re: Any remedy for broken screws
I've melted them back on with a soldering iron before. or 2- part epoxy (the clear stuff in a double syringe).

3M has this and it's really good you can get it a Wal-Mart in the home paint Dept. it's about 3 bux.
Ya have to be very careful using heat on plastic cuz you can distort it very easy. |

Re: Any remedy for broken screws
iv used two methods.
My dash wasnt the greatest but had to work for now. The one i have now i took the front chrome strip off the plastic and put screws throw the plastic to attach every thing after i was done i took supper weather strip addhesive (autozone) and glued the trim back one cant tell a think unless i told you. the second is to use the weather strip adhesive on it to fix it.

Re: Any remedy for broken screws
it scrapes off with a flate edge putty knife. But it wouldnt hurt to heat it up a bit i used a space heater to heat it.

Re: Any remedy for broken screws
I just made a nice stained and lacquered wood panel to cover the whole area instead of putting the vents back in. It looks really clean, who needs A/C anyway, I live in L.A. where it gets up to 120 degrees sometimes, just roll them windows down! Also It's a good place to engrave or print someting custom, I'm gonna put my company logo on it.

Re: Any remedy for broken screws
I just clamp it into place, and fill the hole where the stud used to be with hot glue -- Works like a charm, and so long as you don't over-fill it, its impossible to tell the difference after it is installed

Re: Any remedy for broken screws
I've used plastic dowels and heat or epoxy. Just glue or melt the dowel in place and use the speed nuts.
