Exhaust help!!! Please show-off your dual exhaust pics of C-10 2wd SWB!!!

I just went from a 250 6cyl to a 460 BBC in my '68 SWB and am really not sure how to route the exhaust because of that crossmember that the rearend trailing arms bolt to. It looks like if I cut out holes so the pipes would go through, it might weaken it. Any pics of the underside of your truck showing off your cool dual exhaust would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Not sure about this idea , but somebody here would know .
how about welding in some short heavy walled pipe in that x-member
so the exhaust passes thru those pipes ???
the day will come I'll be in your shoes

mike nutt, that looks really good. I'm hoping to get some exhaust put on my 71 GMC this week. First comes the alignment and then comes the exhaust. i like the idea about the 4" pipes welded into the cross member.

If you don't want to do all that work makin your own, Early Classic Enterprise (I think) makes a bolt on crossmember that has the exhaust pipe holes cut in it already.

Thanks! I can't wait to hear what it sounds like. Doing this is very easy. Even easier if you have access to a welder, and a plasma cutter or oxy-fuel torch. If so, it will take less than an hour.

If not, they can be cut with a jig-saw or a sawzall. And the reinforcement piece can be bolted in if necessary. There are a number of different ways of doing this. Mike used pipe on the inside of his cutout. I used 1/4" plate that I cut into circles, cleaned them up on the lathe and welded to the outside face of the member. The most important thing is to add some method of reinforcement to the member once you are done, either welding or bolting.

I don't think either the way Mike or I did it it is "moe betta" than the other, it's just a matter of personal preference, and usually the materials available. Just the idea of doing odd little things like this to add that custom touch is what I like!

Those trucks look great!. I would love to see some trucks done this way using headers instead of manifolds.

Re: Exhaust help!!! Please show-off your dual exhaust pics of C-10 2wd SWB!!!

There is a company that sells a new cross member for these trucks with holes for exhaust precut in it. I cant remember who it is though for some reason I'm thinking early classic. I might be wrong though

ECE & CPP both sell the crossmember you describe & ART has a tubular version that offers better exhaust clearance (than factory).

Re: Exhaust help!!! Please show-off your dual exhaust pics of C-10 2wd SWB!!!

you can run it through the crossmember which isnt hard to do with the right tools

or you can dump the exhaust before the crossmember

mine dumps out right at the back of the cab just under the bed

Re: Exhaust help!!! Please show-off your dual exhaust pics of C-10 2wd SWB!!!

Just put on new exhaust - Hooker long tubes, 2.5" piping, IMCO Flowtech mufflers, exits out of the back corner. I think I am going to trim up the exhaust ends a little bit so you can see them from the side.
