Ram horns questions.

After reading here about how good ram horn exhaust manifolds are, I recently read about someone saying they had 2.5 in ram horns. So I measured mine and they are only 2in.
Are these going to be adequate for my new 383?? These are the original ones that came with the truck & have an angled outlet (which I like) but most of the ones I see talked about are strait down.
Are the Corvette manifolds the 2.5 dia with the straight down outlet? Is it worth trying to get a set and selling mine? Or it’s not that big of a deal?

Re: Ram horns questions.

They came on the 63-65 fuelie vettes. The corvette parts people want a fortune for them but you can get them if you look around. My 64 vette had them but I sold one of them to a guy needing a fuelie manifold. Now I wish I had kept it. I found Speedway by just typing it in my browser. They may have come on some other cars but I know they came on the vettes.

I had a couple old Corvettes with those manifolds -- a '65 327/365 and a '66 327/350. Like an idiot, when I put Hooker headers on the '65, I scrapped the stock manifolds! That was in 1968... wish I had them now.

Dang, my slow typing got me beat out again!

Re: Ram horns questions.

I read in a mag. that the ram horns were about 60-70% as good as headers over regular log-type manifolds. does your experience hold true to this????

This is what I heard, but nobody mentioned 2.5 dia in any of those statements. Not sure if it only applies to the 2.5’s or 2in. But I would agree that the bigger would flow better.

Re: Ram horns questions.

I found the manifold casting numbers on the 2 1/2" Rams Horn Manifolds. What you should be looking for is:

3797901 = Left side.

3797902 = Right side.

3797942 = Left side with fuel injection.

These are the straight exhaust drop downs. I found some for sale at good prices on the net but I went with a new reproduction one from 1AAuto.com. These are new and you don't have to deal with broken studs and cracked bolt surfaces. They seem like real nice folks and they shipped the next day. $75 plus $19 shipping. Just type in 1963 corvette and it will take you to them. Look for the 2 1/2" ones. I should get it Wednesday and I'll give you my impression of the quality if anyone is interested.
