Re: Brake bleeding?

Start with the right rear then left rear then right front then left front.
usually pro valves have a bleeder on the front of them.

Re: Brake bleeding?

i start with the left rear which is the longest run of tubing from the master cylinder then the right rear right front and left front// you also need to hold the pin in on the combination valve with a special tool (some use a cclamp) while bleeding brakes

Re: Brake bleeding?

This is interseting. I thought you first bench bleed the master cylinder then do the wheel furthest from the master cylinder ending with the wheel closest to the master cylinder as described. Never knew you had to bleed the proportioning valve.

Does the proportioning valve need to be bled? My brake pedal is going to the floor and very slowly coming back up,and the rear brakes are locking up,so the truck won't move foward or backward,so I'm suspecting a master cylinder or proportioning valve, but thought I'd try to bleed the brakes first and the proportioning valve. When Should I bleed the the proportioning valve at the same time as I'm bleeding the brakes and what tool or clamp do I use to hold the pin in? I sure appreciate the help. Thanks guys.

Re: Brake bleeding?

by holding the pin in on the combination valve your preventing it from diverting the pressure to the sealedpart of the system if you dont hold it in in theory the valve wont allow fluid to flow to the part of the brake system your trying to bleed// most people just use a 4" c clamp and after all 4wheels are bleed its released

Re: Brake bleeding?

Hey I just went through the same thing and I found that my wheel cylinders were bad on the rear. Also I didnt hold in the pin on the proportioning valve, It prob. would have been better to do so. I also had to replace the hose for the rear brakes. the one that runs from your hard line down to the axle. Mine was completely closed off. I also went to the drivers side rear first because on the 72 with coils this wheel is farthest away because of the routing of the lines.

Re: Brake bleeding?

You can start front or rear - doesn't matter as they are fed separately.
