another exhaust question...(not a normal one though)

okay, restoring back to (close anyways) to original. I want to go with a single exhaust...I HATE the way the left bank just t's right into the right. I want it to come together a bit smoother...maybe a Y pipe or something. I LOVE how quiet the truck is...I've never had a quiet truck...always duals, flowmasters or glasspacks....or my cummins....straight. This truck is a 70 with a 307 and is SUPER smooth running and quiet with the ??$#%#%$#??? old exhaust on it...hadn't been started in 15 years before I got it...has 44,000 documented miles on it. I'm keeping the stock 307 and no mods...expect HEI for depenablilty. Want the most flow...through a single pipe...and be DEAD quiet. I was thinking 2 1/2" pipe all the way back...that should be WAY better than the one 2" pipe on there now...and the old rusty muffler. I just don't think a single 3" would look to nice sitting under the frame...don't want to cut my crossmember. Any single exhaust pics would be nice...tell me what you guys think, and any suggestions on it. Any high flow DEAD quiet muffler ideas would be nice too. Thanks

Dynomax makes a muffler called the Super Hemi Turbo or something like that. It's designed for RV's, I've read it flows well and is quiet with a nice tone to it.

You should probably stick with 2inch since you are keep the 307, going 2-1/2 may loose some bottom end torque. A "stock" muffler from local joes exhaust shop...ie, midas...might give you what ur looking for. If you are also looking for max flow vs noise, you may have some research to do. GoodLuck

Flowmaster makes a real nice merge Y for building your own single system. I bought them from Summit before.

If you really want DEAD QUIET and still have decent flow, here is one option. I would still go with 2 1/2" dual pipes and 2 mufflers with a crossover pipe. Get mufflers meant for a single ehaust big inch cadilac. They were designed to run 8 "big" cylinders through one muffler. You would only be running 4 smaller cylinders through each one. Years ago one of my uncles did that on a sleeper car he built. that was back in the day before turbos and such but even turbos wont be that quiet.
