Yes, I hope you weren't injured...

Second...good thing that opening was there for you to drive into.. Probably would have been much worse had it been a solid wall...

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

ohw man if you took some more care of that truck you probably would still had brakes , the brake system is made out of two sytems one brakes the left front and right rear the other the right front and left rear you allready pushed through one of the two before or forgot to fill the system up both couldve been avoided theres only a one in a milion chance you pushed through both the brakesystems at the same time .
theres a big chance the frame is bend looking at the pics , seems the bed and the interiour are still salvageable maybe the engine and box too
the cab has been hit at the top on the A pillar , i would buy another truck and sell/use this one for parts , dont forget to overhaul the brakes on the new truck this time before taking it to the road

for those who dont know : you need to chainge the brakefluid every 2 years cause it atracts water and that lowers the boilingpoint of the brakefluid causing brakefade when driving downhill corosion inside the calipers and metal brakeline and stuff like that .

also use the right type of brakefluid dot 4 (or 5 im not realy sure) is syntetic and if you put that together with the lower grade mineral oil it will atack the rubbers inside the brakesystem .... be warned

I am curious how it can split the braking when there is only one brake line going to the rear? Pascal's law says a confined fluid exerts equal pressure in all directions.
That would mean both rear brakes would get the same pressure, and stopping power.

Yes I think he was meaning the front end has its own set up and the rear has its own set up (duel bowl master cyclinder)!

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

To add to Kevin's point, it's split front to back. They didn't start splitting the system diagonally until the big three started pumping out FWD econoboxes. Trucks stuck with the front to back brake split.

Bummer about the accident. As always it could have been worse with people getting injured. It does remind me of a buddy of mine that bought a barn fresh 69 Blazer immediatly lifted it, big tires fresh engine the works. Only thing he overlooked was the brakes. Bit him in the backside when the master cylinder failed and he proceeded to run over the trunk of the car in front of him at a stoplight. didn't hurt the k5, but it mangled that car and his wallet took a beating with the insurance claim.

Everybody focuses on building stuff faster/taller/lower ect but people often overlook brakes as an upgrade point. It's even more important when you put bigger tires on for the 4x4 guys or the 22inch rim crowd. Large tires or big wheels equal more rotating mass to try to stop. Add big tires to a drum brake D44 front axle and you need a football field just to stop in. Not trying to rub salt in the wounds or kick anybody while they are down, it's just often overlooked.

newer FWD cars have a diagonal braking system,
(LF&RR, RF&LR) maybe that's what he's thinknig of.

Ouch... hurts just to look at it. Like others, I hope you are okay. When you are up to it, how about a follow-up.... about you; whether it's insured; what your plans are (as to the truck, or another truck) etc. Also, do you yet know what caused the brakes to fail?

1) I hope you are not hurt.
2) It is a bummer about that truck.
3) You are very lucky you didn't mow someone down, especially a kid.

This should serve as a lesson to all of us. I always see the drivetrain, suspension, and body work done in the build threads, but rarely see any mention about the brake system. We tend to forget about that one!

Again I feel bad about your loss, but it can all be replaced.

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

what car has diagonal braking? Unless something changed in the last 2 years, braking is split front to rear. This is another reason to remove proportioning valves and replace with an adjustable one, at least that way you wont loose all braking when one system fails

So, let me see if I have this straight. AlienYouth got his truck in an accident, and stove it up pretty damn good. He could have been injured or killed in this accident, and you start in on saying "if you took some more care of your truck, you probably would have still had brakes" . You don't even ask if he got injured in the accident, or say you felt bad about his truck getting stove up.

AlienYouth, I hope you made it out of the accident unharmed, and I hope the truck isn't wrecked beyond repair. Really sucks you got into that accident.
