20's on my 79 part 3

So now I have the lowering kit installed. 2 1/2 inch drop spindles in front with stock springs and stock height summit shocks. 4 inch drop in rear with Summit drop shocks. Still looks a little high in the back. Not as level as I thought it would be.

it looks good, doesnt look like that much of a drop. I think it may be how the picture is taken. Good job, how much where the rear drop shocks?

I agree. It looks good. Hard to tell from the picture angle the true drop. I think you got a real nice ride height now.

Re: 20's on my 79 part 3

I think your at your limit right there. If you get it just a little lower in the rear, then it will be sitting level. From what I can see the front wheels don't have a deep enough backspace to go any lower with out rubbing or cutting your tires.

Drive it and see how you like it. It looks good from here....

Re: 20's on my 79 part 3

they look good for sure, need to drop the rear a little more though. I am hoping to get my truck with the final drop in the next few weeks.

I was under the impression that if you did the 2 1/2 and 4 drop it would level the truck out. I did that and its still not even

The back is 4 inches already. 2 inch hangers and 2 inch shackles. Are you saying 4 MORE inches?

Yep,

Here's how i figure it the truck came with a 15" wheel stock if you lowered it 2.5/4 and used the 15's it would sit close to what your looking for.

Since you put 20's on there's 5" added to the hight + tire side wall so really your back to stock higth even tho it's lowered 4".

So another 4" should put the truck @ the ride hight your looking for.

Re: 20's on my 79 part 3

Stepin, how many rear leafs does each spring pack have? I am assuming you have a HD rear suspension...as your truck sits like mine did with a 4" drop. I suggest you take out the overload spring, and maybe the next one to get you the additional drop...as long as you have the HD leafs. I personally think you only need another inch or two...and removing the leafs will accomplish this. The only other way to drop your rear more with the setup you have is dropped leaf springs. You could also put your stock hangers and shackles back on and do a flip kit...but that is a lot more work and of course more money.

Re: 20's on my 79 part 3

looks good...i agree with everyone.it would look better lower in the rear.like bigblock 73 said if it's the leaf spring package he's talking about that would be the cheapest route.other than that flip it.when you get into big diameter wheels the offset becomes a very important factor in your ability to lower.they have got to be able to fit up in the wheel wells with driveable clearance to obtain the ride height people are looking for.other wise your looking into a lot more modifications.

The stock 235-75-15's were 28.9 inches high. My new 275-45-20's are 29.8 inches high. That's not a lot of difference.

Just "flip kit" the rear. I know most people do the "hangers" first,... but eventually everyone goes to a flip kit. Then bags,... then,...

If I am counting right I have 4 leafs all together.

OK, you do not have the HD leaf springs...so that rules out that idea. If you want to go lower, I would get drop leaf springs then. You could put things back to stock and do a flip kit, but if you don't have the stock parts anymore that could be a PITA.

EDIT: Question. Do you have the leafs bolted to the highest hole on your drop shackles? My Bell Tech shackles have two holes, positioning the leafs in the highest hole will give you the larger drop. I am sure you already have it set up that way...but you never know, so we gotta ask.
