Who's owned their 67-72 the longest?

There have been several threads lately on who drives theirs every day, how many one tons, etc . . . I was just wondering - of the members on this board, who has owned theirs the longest??

I bought my Longhorn the summer of '78 (for $700), and have driven it almost every day since - anybody here buy theirs new??

Thought it might be fun to see some long term enthusiasts

I would think that family owned trucks should qualify

I got mine in 1986. Paid $2500 for it and I was 17. While I was in college my Dad and Step Mom divorced. In the divorce my Dad filed for Chapter 11 and the bank got my truck. I tried to buy it from the bank (on a meager college kid income) and I was not the highest bidder. Anyway, I went to the guy that got my truck and he wouldn't sell it to me. I was very upset. My wife (then fiance) went and bought the truck from the guy because he didn't know who she was. She kept in storage and suprised me with it for Christmas that year!! The truck has a lot of sentimental value in our family. I still don't know what she had to pay the guy for the truck, but I bet is was way more than what it was worth.

I got mine in March 1986 for 1500. Put about 3k into it the first few months after purchasing only to have it stolen just before Halloween that year. Got it back almost 1yr later much worse for wear & decided since I already purchased another car I would do a frame up resto. I've had my beater since Feb '00 & it's a daily driver.

The "family" truck--first my uncle's, then my Dad's, then my brother's--was bought new in March of '70.

My '69 I bought in October '93; I'd had the '67 before from May of '84 till September of '93.

My Jimmy was bought by my dad in '76 used with 113k miles already! He drove it everyday until '88 when it was totaled by a stinkin' Lincoln! I've had it since then. Both me and my brother learned to drive in it. One of the family now...

My dad bought it new in april of '72. when he added the spare tire it topped out just over $4000. He ran it mostly with a slidein camper. I got it in sept. of '82 with 76,000 miles. At 83000 the cam gear went took out 8 exhaust valves, I put in a crane econo power 272/284 cam new push rods for the bent ones double roller chain and since about 73,000 miles. other than that and a trans rebuild and 7 mufflers 5 tail pipes 2 lead pipes and 4 sets of tires(dry rot mostly) redid the wood bed. Now the metal is going so its time for a complete resto for another 30 year truck.

I've had mine for 8 yrs. I'm the 2nd owner, I used to drive by it everyday on my way to work. The guy owned a garage and drove the truck daily. I was restoring a "67" swb fleetside but had been looking for a "SUPER" for about 3 yrs and long story short I pulled in and asked if he would like to sell his truck and he said I could'nt afford it! He said 4500.00 and I said do you want a check or cash.I had it in my driveway by noon that day!! Completely rust free with only 73,000 miles. sold the "67" 3 weeks later and started the restoration 3 mos later. Everyone would say why don't you just give up and buy a new truck. I said why would I by a new truck it has automatic trans. pwr/steering, brakes and a/c. so when I finished the frame off and went to the DMV I ordered my plates to say WHYBYNU.

Cool Not Long Enough

I bought mine in March of 85. I have been driving it ever since. It is my everyday driver, and I have a 93 sub., 2001 ext. blazer, and a 94 elderado caddy. I wouldn't take anything for it.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I Know I haven't owned mine the longest, but I might be the newest! I bought my 72 only about a month and a half ago. haven't really driven it since I have been working on it since right after I test drove it. I only get a chance to work on it on weekends due to work and all.

Bought my 69 in Dec. '84 (on younger brothers birthday). Saw it setting on a used car lot in Concord NC, and had to have it. It has been in the basement getting a resto for the last 1.5-2 years. GOing to buy another in a few weeks for my 13 year old son, first for me to use while I finish the 69, then for us to fix up for hsis 16th birthday. Should be a fun project.

I have had mine for about 15 years. I bought it from my brother who had it for 3-4 years. He got it from his brother-in-law who had it for several years.

I just got the '68 from a good friend who just passed away. She bought it new in California in 1968. There are 2 sets of the original keys. The original small grey paper envelope that the keys came in. The round metal rings that list the key numbers. All of the original papers, including owners manual and protecto-plate.

What great stories! I think my thread should have been titled "Your Truck Story"

It sure is fun to hear about the way we acquired our trucks . . . mine was sitting for sale with two other Chevys, & I bought it because of the heavy rear end and 4 speed tranny . . . it was almost a decade later that someone told me it was a Longhorn. I didn't even know what that was. I knew it had a bed extension, but I never questioned why.

I bought it with the original 350 knocking like crazy - the guy selling it said it had been like that since he bought it. I took her home & decided to use her till she blew & then replace the engine. I couldn't believe how long it kept on going! I finally replaced it with a low mile 307 - not because it blew, just because I found a good replacement. When I tore it down to find the problem, I found that someone had replace one piston with an incorrect part, and it had been slapping against the cylinder walls crating a nasty washboard - even with that much abuse, the walls still bored clean & the engine went back into service in a 68 Impala.

Keep the great "Tales of the Trucks" coming!

I'm looking at the original pink slip dated 8/24/1967. Total price of $2832.45. Two trades were also made on the sale: a 1959 International pickup and a 1963 Pontiac Catalina - got $759.45 for both of 'em.

It wasn't me though. It belonged to my wifes grandfather who passed away last year. I have the truck now - lots of sentimental value and family memories.

I got mine for free from my uncle in 1988 (when I was 14). He had to tow it 350 miles to bring it to me. He owned it for at least a good 10 years prior to that. Maybe more, I'll have to check. She used to be a 3 on the tree 350 and now has a TH350. One day, either a 6 speed or 4L80e. She's on her 3rd paint job since I have had her and 2nd engine. I love this truck and will never give her up!
