Wife damaged the K5
So my wife calls today... Says she and her girlfriends needed the lounge chairs in the back of the garage so she had to move the blazer out. Hit the drivers mirror on the garage door frame on the way out. Said it just broke out the mirror glass but I am picturing bent virgin, original paint, door skin. I'll be sick until I can see it. She was sorry but then started to b***h about the garage being full of stuff. I thought of mentioning it, but not a good time to bring up the obvious need for a larger shop. What's a guy to do? Anyway... just had to share with some people who'd understand.

Man, I feel for ya. I can offer a solution that has prevented that from happening to me- get rid of the wife & the garage!

Ahhh... very nice blazer. Virgin indeed.
I'm sorry to hear about the mishap. Hope the damage is limited to just the mirror.

Re: Wife damaged the K5
Hide the keys to the Blazer while you are away and then when she asks, tell her you do not remember where you put them last!!

Re: Wife damaged the K5
This is a good time to utilize her guilt to get another Blazer! Let her know that she damaged the one and the only way to repair it is to get a second (restored) "parts" rig.

Re: Wife damaged the K5
I just lit a candle for you. This is exactly why I don't allow anyone to touch the Blazer unless they have one of their own, that way if they mess mine up, I mess their's up.

Re: Wife damaged the K5
Okay guys, let me give you a lady's perspective on all this...
At least she called & told you exactly what happened, instead of trying to hide it. If you'll just be cool about it all and act understanding that it really was an accident, she should have no problem with you spending the $ to fix it (& you could even add a few extra parts in on the order ) Then the next time you screw something up of hers (and it will happen), remind her of how well you handled the Blazer mirror incident!

Re: Wife damaged the K5
I was going to let the son use it to launch the boat with his buddies this summer but now I'm thinking not. I'm definitely 'loosing the keys' from now on!
You know, having a body shop fix the door skin or picking up a catalog and ordering new repop parts is easy. ...this truck has a patina that is a testament to it's 35 yrs of care and you just can't buy that. I don't know... maybe I'm being stupid. I'm going to see it tomorrow. I'll get pix and post on Thursday - then we'll see if I can guilt her into new tires/wheels!.

Re: Wife damaged the K5
patina is hard to get . If you paint the door the rest of the truck will not match. Then you'll have to paint the whole Blazer. And the patina will be gone forever. Your not being stupid, I feel the same way.

Re: Wife damaged the K5
jtrux, Thanks for the candle. You can extinguish the flame. Only the mirror was broken and bent. As I'm sitting in the truck, I'm thinking how could you not see the wall coming?! It was pitted anyway so I'm on the lookout for another with the appropriate 'patina'. Swap meet this weekend. She was reluctant to admit I need to buy another one so tires/wheels are out of the question. Thanks for all your support...
