Torsion Bars

Hey guys, I haven't read or posted on here in a long time, school and work have taken the better part of my life for the last little while. Anyways just bought me another 1960 chevy pickup, kinda unique it has a 1959 Impala dash welded in instead of the original dash which works really well. It also is chopped 3 in. Definately the makings for a rat rod!!!

So it has torsion bars....

Are they worth dealing with if i wanna put discs and drops spindles? Or are they too much of a pain to even deal with. I have a 1965 frame to put under it if necessary. What do you guys think? (about the torsion bars anyways)

Thanks

Re: Torsion Bars

I had a 62 with the torsion bars, I liked them. If your going to heavily modify the front by lowering it in the weeds your best bet is to yank it out. If your only going to drop it a few inches, then I would leave it in there.

Re: Torsion Bars

I agree. I depends on how low you want to go. It is also cheaper to convert the 65 to disc brakes. It's just a matter of changing out ball joints and spindles. My 62 has a 73-87 front suspension on the original frame. Thats another option for you. Good luck!

Re: Torsion Bars

The guy i bought it from has a guy that can cut the windshield down. He said its a pretty lengthly process. I'm willing to give it a try.
I only want to lower it a few few inches, not wanting to make it a lawn mower by any means, leaving them(torsion bars) in would probably work the way it sounds.
Most of the body work is done, patch panels already welded in, just a few spots that need to be touched up. Mainly where the cab where they chopped it.
So hopefully I get it going soon, I'm working on getting a house then I will get it out of storage. Already have the 65 in progress, however the engine, tranny, other things will be transfered over to this one.
