Leaking Speedo Cable??
I just installed a brand new speedo cable onto my NP205. Now it leaks right at the area where the large 'nut' tightens onto the transfer case. Has anybody had this problem and what might the fix be? Making a mess of an otherwise clean undercarriage. 90wt, yuk smell!!
Thanks, 72longbed |

Re: Leaking Speedo Cable??
my guess is there is a gasket of some form that goes there. if not, i'm sure a gasket would help. Can't be too dificult to make.

Re: Leaking Speedo Cable??
I didn't see this post first, you may have cracked the speedo gear when installing the new cable, or the lip seal around it go spun on installation. pull it apart again and check em over. -steve

Re: Leaking Speedo Cable??
If it's leaking at that point, you probably need to replace that hex looking part that has a rubber seal that wears out over the years. Remove speedometer cable from t case, remove part, replace with new part, then screw back in speedo cable. The part is GM #326561 called a "sleeve" and around $ 20.00 give or take. This is for NP 205 and NP203 cases. Checkout this site www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Gallery/album49 Good luck.

Re: Leaking Speedo Cable??
SoCal71K20 Thank You!! You hit the nail right on the head! I just placed the order with the local GM dealership and will have it Monday.
When so-called 'transfer case experts' told me that I couldn't get any parts for the NP205 speedo drive, a fellow member comes through and saves the day!! Again I am impressed with the knowledge and information that is available on this website. Thanks so much, 72longbed |
