The HEI is a stock GM product so it is stock .....
MSD makes a HEI distributor with a smaller cap, but i dont think it looks like a points unit. If you want it to look original, i would go with a Pertronix kit. It replaces the points, and turns your points distruibutor into a electroic one. Their ignitor II kit costs around $100 i think. Performance would be about the same as the HEI, maybe a little better, but you can't tell that the kit is installed unless you pop off the cap.

treefrog, If you mean make the HEI look like the small dist cap original, not really. However there are kits available to replace the points in a pre HEI dist. The replacment makes an electronic ign out of the old point type.
There are aftermarket dist that are HEI also that have an external coil and don't have "big cap" like the stock HEI's

MSD and Accell come to mind.
