Dashlight Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Installed my dash today. I put new dash tach kit with new circuit board,wiring and all that good stuff. Here is my problem,the right turn signal indicator will not light and the fuel and oil pressure gauge lights will not light up. All the other guage lights work. I've swapped bulbs around and they are all good. Could I have a ground problem or maybe bad connection problem with the bulb holders to circuit board?

It could be just a little pinch in the foil runs where it might be cracked. I would, if you have a multimeter or something to test resistance, check to make sure the foil runs are all intact going to the bulbs. You might not even be able to see the crack in it thats there.

I had the the same type of problem with my new dash, only I had it on the shelf for about 4 years before I installed it. During that time, one of the foil in the printed circuit was cracked. Ordered a new printed circuit and was much moe careful handling it during install....

If you have any expirence with a soldering tool and find the crack, if any, you can run a bridge over the foil with another piece of foil if you have the old board or a piece of copper if you have some. You want to keep the same width for continuity, but as a last resort a piece of wire would work too. Make sure to clean the area and cover it with something like epoxy to keep moisture out and it should work fine

If the bulb holders are old, I would suspect them first. They will look just fine visually, but will not make contact with the bulb. It is easy to see if you have power up to the point on the circuit board where the bulb holder makes contact.

I would personally check the grounding screws at the top coners of the dash, and if needed put a very thin small washer between the screw and the PCB. You of course will have to take the dash out to do this, but you can also check the PCB while it is out. I personally have never had any trouble with new repop PCB, and I have used several hundered of them, just my .02...Randy

Also check the little metal tabs on the bottom of the light sockets, they might be corroded and it wouldn't hurt to bend the tabs up a little (towards the foil) so they'll make better contact.

I would bend the little tabs that hold the bulb inward to make them tight. Make sure they are not corroded. I also bend the ears on the socket to make it tight. Pretty common issue. You could always pull a known good socket out and switch it to the one not lighting to verify.
