Help with HEI wiring

I disconnected some of my wiring and after reconnecting it my truck won't start. I did a few other things as well, but it seems as if it just isn't getting spark. Can you tell me the correct wiring. Does this look right? Is that a ballast? What does it do? Thanks

Re: Help with HEI wiring

I know there are some good write ups in the FAQ section - it took me a while to find it so I'll tell you how to get to it - go to "HOME" (top of the page) and then to "FAQs" - not the one on the header, but down a bit (on the left) - when that opens, look for the post by "Krue" it's called "FAQ Thread Index" (after the "announcement" group) - I'll check it again and edit this post if I'm mistaken - that FAQ section is a great place to check first... saves a lot of time.

Re: Help with HEI wiring

Here is the Mallory wiring diagram for the UNilite distributor. Everything looks good at first glance, but you might want to make sure the right wires are attached to the positive and negative terminals on the coil. Also, check to see if you have 12 volts at the ballast, and voltage coming out of the ballast. I am not too sure what the voltage will be out of the ballast, but you should be able to possibly locate that on Mallory's website, or another member might be able to provide this info.

Good luck!!!!

Re: Help with HEI wiring

Yes, there are acutally two options that work. I actually did have it right and after disconnecting and reconnecting after cleaning, the truck started right up. The way I had it is the new way which gives it more power, but I will show both possiblities. My wire colors are also wrong, so you can't go off of these.
