HEI Question

I finally am ready to change out the old points dist. after all of my procrastination with points.I have seen quite a few good posts in the past giving info about where to disconnect the original wire from the ignition, what gage wire to install from the fuse block to the dist.
What later chevy year match to change the plug wires to existing(1972 402BB) I have had an HEI on the shelf in the garage for too long. Need some info.

Re: HEI Question

10 gauge wire is good, also disconnect the yellow wire that goes to the solenoid if you are using your stock wiring harness.

Re: HEI Question

more questions ,will my factory tach work well with a HEI swap?
Plug wires? seems like I remember 1979 corvette for swap?
What spark plugs would be recommended?

Re: HEI Question

I know 76 vette would be good, not sure about 79 though.
Your tach will work too, you'll need to cut and crimp a new spaid terminal on there.

Frank... where you been man? You went MIA on us for a while there. You seen the thread on the board meet this summer? It isn't too far from here.

Re: HEI Question

Hey Longhorn man!
Had too many house projects in the house lately. not enough cash to play with the old truck.I am trying to get back in the swing and get interested again. When I get the HEI installed it should be dependable enough to go anywhere.
