Re: rear drop coil springs
I've gone as low as 7". Depends on what you use it for.

Re: rear drop coil springs
I've got 6", but found out you don't use the truck to haul much because they can't handle a lot of weight. Not that I use it for a work truck.

I believe you can go 6" without a notch.

Re: rear drop coil springs
I have 5" rear lowering springs on mine with no problems. I also installed a ECE super track bar kit, but that was to clear my exhaust.

Re: rear drop coil springs
That ECE track bar also eliminates the bump steer you would otherwise get from a 5or6" rear drop. By the way, after having bags, I would never go back to springs. Bags are completely adjustable for height regardless of weight. As for the notch... at 6"... I dont think its needed (I didnt), unless you plan to haul ass over whoops.

Re: rear drop coil springs
yellow,I can't believe you're telling someone to ditch the best pictorial assembly manual made for these trucks. You should just tell him to order from someone who doesn't think old truck parts are gold.

Re: rear drop coil springs
I have a five in mine and love the ride quality. The PO had the springs torched to where I would estimate about a 7 w/o a notch. The ride was horrible with the torched springs and bumpstops got in the way quite a bit, so I don't know if it would've hit without them or not....No problems at all with the 5 though.

Re: rear drop coil springs
I have ECE 6" rear drop coils and the super track bar. She's fine in all but the harshest conditions. However I drive it like I stole it! If you tend to ease over every railroad crossing and speed hump you are going to be fine with this setup. Loaded, things are a different story. On the way to Maggie Valley I had a 50qt cooler loaded down in the back along with our luggage and folding chairs and my box of cleaning supplies. I could feel the difference of having this small of a load in the back. I also bottomed out several times on the way up. I have no bumpstops whatsoever. If you plan on hauling a load you're probably going to be happier with 5" springs or bags. Here's mine.
This truck has 5" drop coils out back. |
