What is this bracket for?
I have seen this on the 2 1970 4x4's that I have had. Nothing was attached to it so I am wondering what it is for. It is located on the passenger side just behind the tranny cross member. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Re: What is this bracket for?
exactly--supposed to help keep the t-case from breaking the back of the transmision case when in low range---theoretically

Re: What is this bracket for?
Is it for a 205 only or will it fit the 203 and 208?
Thanks

Re: What is this bracket for?
The 208 definitely did not use the frame bracket. Some 203s (early models) may have.

Re: What is this bracket for?
I was shocked to see it myself. It was fun to remove as well. I had to put my large jack stands on cynder blocks just to reach the frame.
Thanks for all the great info.

Re: What is this bracket for?
my 79 K20 doesn't have it - 203 TC, neither does my 85 K10 - 208 TC
Are you sure that's a K5 frame?

Here is a pic of my K5 with a 203. Looks like it could mount right to the t-case.

Re: What is this bracket for?
73 and up 4x4s with 203s and 208s didnt use that bracket but they did use a heavy rod that bolted to the same 2 holes in the transfer case and it ran up to the transmission to block bolt right above the starter. These were usually left off whenever a transmission or motor was swapped out, it was a real pain to get to that bolt with this brace in place. This bracket worked in conjunction with two more strut rods that went from under the motor mounts to the heavy cast transmission pan on automatic trucks.

Re: What is this bracket for?
my 68 K-10 manual with a rockwell T/C has that bracket. T/C bolted to one part and the other to the frame. I just bought new poly bushings for it...

Re: What is this bracket for?
My 71 k10 4 speed 205 has this bracket, but my 79 k20 4 speed 205 does not. In fact the mounting surface on the 79 205 doesnt even have holes tapped in the case, just a smooth machined surface where the mounting holes would be.
