output shaft for a 400sbc

I am using a 1977 400sbc with a th350. I want to use a 700r4. Did all 400's have the same output shaft spline count? What do I need to know before I buy a 700r4 regarding compatability? Yes, I have been reading about the issues with lockup etc. I am hoping I don't have to tear into everything before I order a tranny.

Thanks

Probably some 285/75/16 Toyo m/t's on my stock rims coming up.

Re: output shaft for a 400sbc

uuhh wtf??
th350 and 700r4 are 27 spline, th400s are 32 spline

400sbc dont have output shafts.

all chevy trannies will bolt to a sbc.

Re: output shaft for a 400sbc

Engine size is unimportant. Question is can TH350 be replaced with 700R4 directly and answer is it will bolt up but needs other work. Search on BOWtie overdrives and get help, need different carb cable set up, driveshaft length, etc. 2004R will bolt in with new carb cable setup - throttle valve not kickdown. Might look thru forum searching 700R4.
