Give this site a try. I copyied and pasted the vin # into the decoder and it tells what the truck basically is, and you can also look up the mod# This confirms what the truck is but dosen't list the options ordered on the truck. You can also look at the vin# stamped into the frame to make sure it's the same as the last eight digits of the vin tag. You can find this on the top of the frame rail near the steering box or on top of the frame rail under the drives door. Were in NH you located. Gary

Re: 1972 VIN Decode help
most of the VIN decodes don't know this... but in 72, all chevy trucks started with a C (for chevy) and the GMCs had T (you'd expect a G wouldn't you?)
CKE142S135452 So yours is a; C chevy K 4X4 E v8 engine 1 1/2 ton 4 cab with bed (no specification of what bed, that's in the model number) 2 1972 S built in St Louis 135452 the 35452nd one built for 72 on that assembly line at that plant. |

Re: 1972 VIN Decode help
Thanks Gary. I am currently living in
Brookline, NH. The engine code on this truck is LS9 CID 350. Would this have been correct? The seller got this information from the glove box tag on this stepside.... thanks again |

Re: 1972 VIN Decode help
From what I could find the LS9 wasn't offered in trucks until 1973, but that dosen't mean it didn't happen. If the option sheet is original and it's listed then so be it. You can also look at the engines ID #'s stamped on the block just in front of the head. ( I forget if it's DS or PS ) this # will also give you more info. If the truck is in good enough shape to restore or better, and the price is right for it's condition consider buying it. The swb 4x4's are getting tough to find and one of the most sought after of these trucks.
I currently have two of these trucks. If you have any pic's you can post or send me ( Without giving away where the truck is ) I can give you my opinion. Good luck !!!
