Disc Swap Progress Pics - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

For about the last week I've been in the process of swapping my truck to disc brakes. I had to park it temporarily due to gas prices, so I figured now would be a good time to tear it apart. Let me know what you all think, or if you see any potential problems.

This is the donor: an 89 'Burb. Not much fun pulling this stuff by myself.

Took about 3 hours to get it apart and loaded in the truck.

Disassembly

Here's the parts cleaned and painted. I used Rustoluem and it seems like it will hold up well.

Last one (for now) Took some time to get it to fit right with no clearance issues, but I think it's going to work pretty well.

Looks good, what all did you end up having to replace? It looks like you bought UBJ's at least. How much did the 'Burb set you back?

I just robbed the parts from it. A good friend of mine has his own "personal graveyard" for late model chevies. He charged me $50 for the front suspension, swaybar, booster, etc. So far I've replaced upper/lower ball joints, upper/lower control arm bushings and sway bar bushings. I still have to get tie rods, centerlink bushings, etc. and get the calipers and rotors, too. All the old stuff was pretty much shot. I was able to run brake lines today and get the booster linkaged hooked up. I still have some work to do, but it's coming along.

Good deal, what you're doing is the epitome of hot rodding. Sure beats just installing mail order stuff (although new parts are fun sometimes too

Did you have any problems getting the booster to pedal connected? I have an 81 GMC I am getting parts from and would like to use the booster and MC from it, going on 3 yrs now

Some of the guys on here used a coupler and threaded rod to lengthen the linkage, but I did mine a little differently. I attached the new linkage directly to the pedal using the same shouldered bolt that came factory. I just had to grind down the shoulder so it would fit through the new linkage's opening. My pedal sits a tad lower than it did factory, but I still have enough room between the pedal and toepan with the pedal fully depressed. I hope I'm making sense in how I'm explaining this.

Uhhhhhh,89 "burb?If I remember correctly there is a track width difference that started in '86.Better check with the guru's of the swap.

Everything seemed normal when I test fit the upper and lower arms and the crossmembers are nearly identical. I thought 88-91 Burbs were the same as 73-87. I posted awhile back regarding that very thing but didn't get much of a response. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

I don't think so either. Both crossmembers are same width a-arm to a-arm so I think I'll be o.k.
