Exhaust ???????????

I just got back from the custom exhaust shop . i am thinking of putting on a new exhaust system. i asked the guy there if he could put on something that would quiet it down when im on the highway. he said with me running a corvette motor with 375 horse it would be hard to do. and running 2.5 inch pipes from corvette manifolds all the way back to the back. he suggested i go with 2.5 inch pipes with a 70 series flowmasters. note: it has flowmasters on it now . is there any systems that would quiet it down but still give me the performance and horsepower? the system i have now is all pieced together and i have to move the rear pipes to get the new rear blazer tank in the back. so thats why im gonna put a new system on it. any suggestions?
thanks, DAN

Flowmaster claims that the 70 series will make as much horsepower as say, the 40 series - The only difference is the sound level. A co-worker was inquiring about mufflers for his V-10 Dodge truck, and this is the info they gave him...

Walker Dynomax Hemi Turbo mufflers. Excellent flow and really quiet. I have them on my JImmy with 2 1/2" exhasut and the Corvette manifolds. SOunds trick when you're on it, but quiet when you're not. Not a Flowmaster fan although I still have a set I bought in 1985 on my Camaro. The Hemi Turbos are less than $40 each from Summit. According to Walker, each hemi turbo will support 200 hp with no loss from the muffler. Torque Technologies recommends the Hemi Turbo for their 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhausts for Camaros and Chevelles for the street.

I just ordered a set of Dynomax Super Turbos for my '67. I had a set before I started my rebuild and loved them. You are right.... quiet until you get on it. Are the Hemi Turbos more quiet than the Super Turbos?

They have a deep TONE, but they also have a low VOLUME. They sound excellent IMO, but I want powerful AND quiet. I want to profile based on how my truck looks, not draw attention becfause it is loud. Yes, they are quieter than the regular super turbo. They are virtually the same, just in a 20" case instead of a 14" case.

i've been in the muffler business since back in the 80s. if you want performance with less noise check out magnaflows, made by car sound. they are a straight through design but are real mellow sounding until you stick your foot in it.over the years i've redone two vehicles that burned because of flowmasters and their excess heat-luckily i didn't do either of them the first time.

Mike C... I agree.... nice deep tone, but not very loud. I considered going with Flowmasters this time, but just knew I'd get sick of them over time. Can't wait to get them piped up!
