Long Bed Question (GMC)
Hi,
Did Chevrolet or GMC ever do a Longbed fleetside with a side opening on the drivers side which acted as a tool box (not a small flap a whole side opening.. I saw an old rerun of 'fallguy' tonight and the whole side of the bed opened up to about the wheel well on the driver side. Was this a production truck or a protoype that never made it into production but GMC supplied to the studios? If production is it common? I've never seen one before... I'm not really up to speed on 73+ trucks,... so apologise if this is the dumbest question ever.. Cheers...

Re: Long Bed Question (GMC)
I see those storage areas on older 73-74 trucks from time to time. I'm guessing it was an option back then but it seems to be pretty rare.

Re: Long Bed Question (GMC)
It was custom made for the TV series. It never came that way from GM.

Re: Long Bed Question (GMC)
My uncle ordered his 70 with that option, but it wound up coming without it. From what I understand, those used to rot badly up here in the salt belt, which may be why it didn't stick around for the 73-87 trucks.

Re: Long Bed Question (GMC)
He isn't talking about the little door on the bottom of the fender. He is talking about the whole side of the bed from the fenderwell to the cab opening up....
